Re: 6G v2.0
One of my other big gripes about the Bronco centers around the Sasquatch package wheels. I had already taken care of making them as visually appealing as I could by shooting the decorative trim ring a silver color, but the aforementioned trim ring was really the problem regardless of what color it w...

Re: The Minion XJ aka GGv3.0
We tracked down the high-idle issue to a couple of rotted out vacuum line connections at the intake manifold, so that issue is officially czeked off the list. Next up was a bath, and boy oh boy did she need it... IMG_1366.JPG The final piece of the puzzle, for now at least  , was to address bu...

Sharp's Ridge Loop 08Nov2025
The reasoning for this trip was twofold: I have an annual commitment as an onX Maps Trail Guide to provide at least one new trail writeup each calendar year; and second was a test run for the minion's wadded up XJ rebuild. We launched from the West Richland Maverick around 0730 under picture perfect...

Re: The Minion XJ aka GGv3.0
Welp... after a few more hours buttoning up some of the loose ends and with no more than about 17 feet of road testing, we did the right thing and threw it on the trailer to hit the dirt 8) IMG_1297.JPG IMG_1317.JPG There are a few minor items to address, chief among them a random high-idle issue, b...

Re: 2005 LJ
After the past 8+ months of wheeling everywhere between Naches, WA and Fordyce, CA, commuting to work, and otherwise sitting around in a filthy dirty shop environment, I realized that this pooch hadn't seen the business end of a wash mitt in what seemed like decades... So I did something about it: I...

DIY Fridge Slide
Since we bought our ARB 12volt fridge over 6-years ago, it has been used and abused in a bevvy of different vehicles, each of them with their own unique form of storage and restraint. None of those, however, has included the ability to "easily" access the contents of said fridge... The con...

Re: 6G v2.0
My disdain for having to constantly deal with straps to restrain my storage bins combined with my ever-present ADD led me down the rabbit hole of alternate storage solutions. Dryside showed me the light with the Milwaukee Packout system that he has incorporated into his JKU-R build, and it combines ...

Good, bad, or otherwise the soft deadline that was looming is no more... While that does take the pressure off in terms of calendar days, I do still want to get this wadded up beer can out of my shop  I spent a few more hours on it this weekend and managed to get it to roller status, which mea...

Still plugging away on the cage: IMG_0725.JPG IMG_0737.JPG While the cage is getting cleaned up and ready for paint, we took the opportunity to add some rear departure clearance via the cut-n-fold method: IMG_1054.JPG IMG_1061.JPG IMG_1064.JPG Then it was time to whip up a quickie rear bumper to rep...

Mr. and Mrs. OG were en-route back from a summer in Colorado and the timing just so happened to work out. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is THE right tool for this particular job, but rest assured Ginger the trusty JLU-R is still in the fleet and ready to go back to work

I'm guessing with the club connections most of you guys are already well aware of this, but this was the first time I'd heard of the upcoming 50% price hike for the Discover Pass starting next month:

Idaho BDR 9-12/15-2025
The Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR) covers something like 1,100 miles in its entirety, and has everything from arid desert at the Southern end near Nevada, to lush and thick forest up North near the Canadian border. Similar to the other BDR routes we've run, the varied terrain and ecosystems...

Re: 6G v2.0
After nearly a year since the last update, which has included countless wheeling trips and miles traveled off-road "BDR-style" towing the little camp trailer around, I finally got around to taking another crack at an LED light bar. Sort of... Version 1.0 was a terrific failure because of t...

Re: The Minion XJ aka GGv3.0
With the axle and brake upgrades figured out, albeit not completed, the next item on the list was a cage. With the XJ no longer serving daily driver duty, its future as a dedicated wheeler has been carved in proverbial stone, and thus some substantial increase in protection is warranted. I've never ...

As the weeks and months rolled by and spring came back around, the boy was itching to get something going with his beloved XJ. We spent a few hours one afternoon getting it running again and doing some cleanup of the engine bay and interior, and then started to put a plan together for it's resurrect...

Re: The Minion XJ aka GGv3.0
Fast forward nearly 4-years, and the little XJ has dutifully done battle everywhere from the high-school parking lot to Moab, the Rubicon Trail, and countless other adventures in between. It’s seen everything from routine maintenance to tire and wheel upgrades, suspension changes, and even an engine...

Re: Fordyce 28Jun2025
For anyone interested, I'll give my insight into the trail and some general thoughts on the trip as whole... Hopefully Dryside will do simular. To get it out of the way immediately, I would NOT recommend doing what we did in terms of how the trip was approached. A long drive day, followed by a full ...

I'm exhausted... Dryside and I launched from the greater Kennewick area around 0700 on Friday, 27Jun2025 and proceeded to drive approximately 750 miles to the outskirts of Truckee, CA. The road trip was long, and there was some drama with a pesky trailer wheel bearing, but overall things went reason...

DIY Trail Welder
After the absolute disaster we encountered on the Rubicon trip last summer ( http://www.peakputters.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7569 ) that involved using a trail welder on no less than 3 separate occasions, having one of these in the tool bag has become a high priority for me personally. Now,...
