Re: 6G v2.0

Keene eyed viewers may have already noticed, but I yarded out the front sway bar since the Wildtrak doesn't have the electronic disconnecting version from the Badlands. As it turns out, I have noticed very little additional sway, and don't miss it in the slightest: IMG_6126.JPG One other thing that ...

Re: 6G v2.0

With recovery and air under control, it's time to address rocker protection. I have two distinct schools of thought here, and have had good success with both so it was a toss up on which way to go... In one camp is the theory that you can't hit what isn't there, meaning keep things high and tight an...

Re: 6G v2.0

After some internal debate and pondering, I ended up going the wireless route for the winch controls. I picked up one of the inexpensive wireless controllers from Harbor Freight, which I used over 10-years ago on an XJ build where I hid the winch behind the factory front bumper (this seems to be a f...

Re: 6G v2.0

The first step was to remove all of the ugly that I could from the previous owner's life choices. Off came the step bars, mudflaps, and I swapped the factory Sasquatch flares for some factory narrow flares for a much sleeker look: IMG_6127.JPG IMG_6176.JPG IMG_6257.JPG With that handlt, it's time to...

Well, what can I say... another year, another rig    This will be our second dive into the world of the 6th generation Bronco, and having learnt a few things from the first go-round ( http://www.peakputters.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=7190 ) I'm hopeful this one will turn out...

Seep Lakes 13Mar2024

Through an odd series of events, I ended up in the greater Moses Lake area on a Wednesday afternoon... With a few extra minutes on my hands, instead of just ripping back home via Hwy 17, I instead opted to take a little detour to see what the Seep Lakes area had in store. Holy cow  As with a ...

We launched from the West Richland Maverik around 0700 in typical blustery March conditions, but the winds were at least pushing the clouds around enough to provide some direct sunlight now and again as we made our way Westward: IMG_5960.JPG IMG_5964.JPG We stopped at the Windy Point muster area to ...

Re: 2005 LJ

The 39's are a big tire, at least for the TJ platform... That said, for my use case, I have little concern with the durability of the Dana 44 rear axle, particularly with the addition of some chromoly shafts and a full-replacement carrier such as a Detroit locker. With that in mind, my attention tur...

Re: 2005 LJ

I finally got around to fabricating a little bracket to mount a reverse camera, and at the same time relocate the license plate. It's just ridiculous how long that silly little things like this can take

Re: Saddle Mountains 19Feb2024

Thats part of the BDR? It is not part of the BDR. We have simply adopted WABDR as the official terminology of all things off-road. It's just fun to say... WABDR ... :lol2 Wheeling the big truck? How's the ride? Similar to asking anyone that drives a Jeep, the response is: it's rides great, for a 3/...

Saddle Mountains 19Feb2024

We somehow ended up with President's Day off this year, which presented the opportunity for some light WABDRing on an otherwise typical Monday... After reviewing the options and the weather, OG and I decided to explore an area that has been driven by countless times but never paid much attention to:...

Cold Weather Camping 09Feb2024

With a break in all other action and a serious need to GTFO, the right answer was to find solace at elevation. The true beauty in the little camp trailer is the ability to toss in a few vital elements such as clean underoos and a sack of jerky, and be gone on a moments notice. Such was the case on t...

Re: 2005 LJ

Good, bad, or otherwise the LJ isn't chalk full of creature comforts like the newer model Jeeps, and one thing I have grown to enjoy is wireless Carplay for running onX Maps on the big screen. To address the issue, I picked up a cheap head unit from Amazon along with a double DIN installation kit fo...

Re: 2005 LJ

To add switches to control things like auxiliary lights and the ARB compressor, I wanted to come up with something overhead because I simply love the "upfitter switches" offered by FoMoCo in their pickups and the 6G Bronco. After some research and mockup, I landed on a sweet little housing...

Now that all of the body modifications were complete, it was time to address finding new homes for everything that was displaced underhood. Re: 2005 LJ

With the front fenders loosely relocated 3-1/4" up and the hood trimmed accordingly, it was time to address getting the rear fenders to match. This seemed simple, right up until I realized that the evap canister is hiding in the cavity behind the passenger rear tire... IMG_5615.JPG IMG_5616.JPG...

Re: 2005 LJ

So apparently the LJ isn't for the youngest minion anymore? Well, truth be told, it never really was... she laid claim to it the moment she saw it and in a moment of weakness my response just wasn't emphatic enough to keep her from thinking as much. Further, because of the bevvy of other junk at my...
