Re: What did you do to your wheeler today?
The CJ got some love today. Most of you have heard the starter not engage and zing the fly wheel over the last 10 years. It would always eventually engage, so it wasn't high on the priority list. Well, the starter finally decided it wasn't going to do anything if the battery was less than perfect. S...

Re: Bunny v2.0
It's alive! I was able to get another good weekend in of wrenching on the Bunny. I'm pretty sure it's not going to debut at the 50th run. With life's events, I completely lost track that the 50th run is NEXT weekend. I put in a solid effort, but it's going to take more time than I have to get it tra...

Re: Bunny v2.0
I don't see that sleeving these is necessary. Both walls of the expanded portion of the frame are heavy, I'm using nylocks and wide washers, so I don't see them deforming the frame from torque. The particular cross member that has several bolts pass through the double walled section of frame is late...

Re: Bunny v2.0
Well, I had a goal of getting the explorer back on the ground over the long weekend, I made great progress, but didn't quite get there. Here are some pictures: New wheel bearings and seals done: http://imageshack.com/a/img924/2915/bcnIUH.jpg Rear axle buttoned up with new brakes lines, wheel cylinde...

Re: Bunny v2.0
Got some iron in the mail yesterday! http://imageshack.com/a/img922/5450/chKxBF.jpg As soon as I mock up the suspension I'm going to make a decision on bump stops. These are what I'm thinking: http://www.kartek.com/parts/progressive-rate-bump-stops-2-12-tall-black-pair.html?Session_ID=cb5fcb497821e4...

Re: Bunny v2.0
Progress has been a little slow on the Bunny over the last couple of weeks because now I'm taking care of all the tedious stuff that will hopefully pay off in the end. I'm cleaning and painting everything i touch, installing the front locker, installing the rear axle truss and diff cover, reinforcin...

15`s or 17`s
Looking for opinions on 15 vs 17 in wheels for tires in the 33-35in flavor. My natural instinct is 15`s for sidewall flex, sidewall flotation and rim protection. But, the cheap a$$ in me sees tons of 17" takeoffs on Craigslist. It also seems like the trend in the off-road tire industry is towar...

Re: Bunny v2.0
Don:+20, Dreaded Rivets:0. Rivet removal went smooth using the grind and air hammer method. Only took about an hour.
Tear down is now officially complete! I want to start putting it together so bad, but I've got cleaning, painting, reinforcing and a locker to do.

Wrench wrote:Air chisels work great for those rivets.
I'm planning on taking the approach of skinny wheeling the head off then air hammering the nub out. I've got about 20 to do.
With what I got done last night, the rivets and a couple frozen brake fittings are all that's left of the tear down.

Re: Bunny v2.0
How much do you think the rig will weight when done? I'm finding the specs for stock weight as 3800lbs. I figure I'll add 150 in suspension and 300 in cage and accessories. Also, the wheelbase is 102". Interesting comparison, the Jeep LJ`s are 3800lbs and 103". The explorer weight bias is...

Re: Bunny v2.0
So, after taking two days off last week to clear my plate of house/ yard chores, I've gotten about 10 hours in to the Bunny project. Right now, both axles are off the truck. The front is stripped down to bare beams and ready for cleaning, trussing, painting and the Aussie locker install. The rear ha...

Here's the laundry list of parts ordered this morning: Brake rotors, brake pads, calipers, wheel bearings, bearing seals, brake drums, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake hardware kits, adjusters, ball joints, ball joint camber eccentrics, master cylinder ... That ought to take care of the brake iss...

Re: Bunny v2.0
What's the rim width? If it's 15x7 I would go with the 10.5, if its 15x8 I would go with 12.5. That is if you want to air down the tires under 10psi with less chance of losing the bead. Your comment just invoked a ptsd like reaction, I have a deep hate for losing beads! If I went 10.50 I'd run stoc...

Re: Bunny v2.0
Does anyone have any opinions on 33x12.50 vs 33x10.50? I'm leaning toward the 10.50, especially if I can get my hands on the new Grabber X3's. The only downside I see on the 10.50's is snow flotation and potentially lower sidehill stability. The 10.50's will keep my overall width down, I can run a f...

Bunny v2.0
The trails have been calling, wheeling season is coming fast, and there's not enough hours in my day to get the CJ to where it needs to be. In all honestly, when the CJ works, it works well, but the reliability issues have been gnawing at me, and frankly kept me off the trails. I know it's almost bl...

Cutting that inner bead guard off is somewhat common practice. When the tires are bagged, it acts as a lever pushing the bead away from the rim and pooping air out until it falls off the bead. Graham, I'm running 15x8s with weld on beadlocks with 37x13.50's. I used to have 15x10s non locked and lost...

Tire Groover
Anyone have a tire groover available for me to borrow? I have theory about cutting the rim guard off my Pitbulls to hopefully keep them on the rim.

I'm looking to get rid of this quick. I picked it up in a deal for a new car trailer. I'm willing to work on the price for PP members! Just drop in a small block, radiator and 3 wires and you have a tow rig! I can drop it off at your house.
