Are you at TDC of the Compression stroke or the exhaust stroke?? common mistake for people to make... as for the electrical yes you can damage things by cranking until they die. Trace the path of the power from the battery and find out where it stops.

Check the vacuum line going to your fuel pressure regulator. It is on the front end of the fuel rail - not sure of that is a renix I thought they got rid of that in 89? If there is gas in the vac line you have a bad regulator, they can/do cause a variety of symptoms. You could also have a bad line t...
