Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
Turns out the winch I acquired is an old school version and seems to have the original Prestolite motor. This also means the shaft is keyed, not the newer spline and will need the new gear. So, I went ahead and pulled the motor off. This required pulling the clutch off, little trick, turn it about 9...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
From what I've seen, you either replace it with a 4.5-4.8hp (early ones are about 2.5hp) original replacement motor (Warn 7536) or the 9.5xp 6hp (Warn 68608) which needs a new gear (key to 20 spline). Then from there you decide, do I take a chance on Chinese (DB Electrical) or buy Warn. If it's not ...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
Good news, finished the fab work and painted it. Bad news, the "good" winch isn't working, Think the motor is bad but on the bright side, gives me an excuse to upgrade. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/Blue_YJ/8010C564-C765-47C0-92F0-AD836180C4D0_zps0n5hthof.jpg

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
After this little incident last weekend, I decided it was time to get the winch project finished up. This would have been 5min if I had a winch, turned into an hour. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/Jeep%20Runs/BF7603A5-8CF8-4827-AA76-E8EE7A9910A8_zpsniiasszs.jpg Welded nuts to the...

Ahtanum run 6-10-17
The guy with a yellow Flatfender and I made a trip to the Ahtanum. We got snow, rain, and sun. Got stuck and had great reminder of why you stay back when the winch cable broke. A reminder that pulling with a strap in the snow isn't a good idea, two rigs stuck with a strap between them sucks. Snow wa...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
Next step: Winch mount YJs have a cross bar that limits how far down an 8274 vertical winch. The 8274 sits tall so I'm trying to mount it and keep it as low as possible. So staying with the smaller mount theory. The mount came with winch. It needed a little trimming to make it a little smaller, not ...

Juniper clean-up
Attended the Midnite Mudders Juniper clean-up. Mostly MMs, a few dirt bikes, couple Desert Rats, couple independents, and of course Doug Conners is what I saw, haven't seen the actual list and don't know how many hours were collected. The group we were put with ended up doing the NE corner and besid...

BLM scouting wilderness fence
A little trip Juniper today with the BLM, Peakputters, Desert Rats, Roman Chariots, and Midnight Mudders, though the Peakputters got lost before things got started. The sand was so wet, traction was not an issue. Having all this extra traction was especially good for me since it seems the fuel pump ...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
After adding the double booster and larger master there was no room for the stock air cleaner. One TJ air tube saved from the dumpster and a quick trip to the parts store. One cone air filter, one piece of 3" exhaust pipe, one 2.5 to 3.0 coupler. The couple and exhaust pipe are needed because a...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
Still chugging along and got a little more done this weekend. Inner fender wells. It is about 1/8"ish rubber and should work OK, but not overly happy. Think I'll eventually make metal inners or some sort of rod frame to rivot the rubber to. Also found out that "straps" should be used,...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
This is a XJ but believe it to be the same as a YJ. The spring, plunger, and o-ring were removed (right side of screen) and the end bolt vent was welded up. From all my reading, this should allow full pressure to the rear. So it goes back to: Is my MC piston to big and not exerting enough psi to the...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
Right, the valve body there. But with the plunger removed does that let the front circuit and rear circuit to balance pressure? Is it just an open manifold? Open manifold, front and rear should be receiving the same pressure. With the parts in the proportioning valve, the rear did almost nothing, w...

Re: YJ mods, an on going thread.
After a little trip to the Ranch & Home, a few options were picked-up. A 2 1/2" long 1/4-28 bolt with the head ground down did the trick. A few times on/off with with the master to get a he correct depth and: http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/Blue_YJ/8FCF7740-B91C-47A7-A7F5...

Double diaphragm booster from a cherocar to YJ, yea, didn't quite understand everything on the write-up, but much clearer now. First, obvious thing, the length to connect the pedal, and connection hole. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/Blue_YJ/860039E1-293F-455A-87E3-1E86655B72FC_z...

Still trying to get some last minute things buttoned up, one being the brakes. Yes, the brakes work but are anything but impressive. The setup is stock single diaphragm booster, 75 T-bird master (disk fr & rr), 1/2 ton Chevy disks up front, Isuzu Rodeo rear disks, and a gutted proportioning valv...

Adventures in beadlocks. Must say that I've never had or mounted beadlocks before but watched a couple videos, just not the same. First thing, soapy water is your friend. I also believe in the spacer. The spacer give the bolts something to tighten up against, rather than hanging out waiting to break...

Today started off by cutting some brand new spring. The military wrap wasn't working with my setup and after some reading, also limits the spring a little. So out came the cutoff wheel and made short work of them. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/Blue_YJ/94AEAD2E-9220-4C8B-9CB9-640...
