Re: 2022 Bronco
After living with the A-pillar grab handle for a couple of months, it was apparent that had used too small of tubing diameter as it was a little hard on the hand/fingers  Plus, I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the lazy approach I took to the overall design, with a single bend at the top and ...

Re: GTFO Camp Trailer
It took a little research but I was able to find some cute little shocks that are 8-5/8" compressed and 12-3/4" extended, which are perfect numbers to keep the shocks at almost exactly 1:1 with the angle of the trailing arms and the shock mounts I devised: IMG_1647.JPG IMG_1648.JPG IMG_165...

Re: GTFO Camp Trailer
The Dexter Torflex axle that came standard under the 12RK is great in theory. It's a rubber torsion axle that allows roughly 3" of independent articulation and provides a great ride on the road. However... it's rated for 3,500lbs and under the most loaded of conditions for my use case, the 12RK...

Re: GTFO Camp Trailer
With the hitch itself built, it was time to figure out exactly how to integrate it into the existing chassis of the trailer. The simplest approach seemed to be starting with a blank slate, so it was time to make that happen: IMG_1526.JPG IMG_1528.JPG IMG_1530.JPG With a blank slate achieved, it was ...

Re: GTFO Camp Trailer
With roughly 8 months of ownership under our belt, we have come to learn a few things about the little trailer. Most of this, admittedly, comes from using it in ways that Forest River absolutely never intended: 20220624_093104.jpg IMG_0033.JPG IMG_0102.JPG IMG_5312.JPG IMG_5874.JPG IMG_6212.JPG IMG_...

AND The Kitchen Sink Snow Run 21Jan2023
This was one for the ages... It had everything: gorgeous sunrise, calm winds, bluebird skies, warm tamales, pea-soup fog, shovels, chain saws, winches, kinetic ropes, the party pulley, blown beads, snowflakes the size of paper plates, pitch darkness just beyond the headlights, second lunch, howling ...

Re: 2022 Bronco
That lil antenna will probably serve all your needs... How did the little radio do? It seemed to do fine, other than the folks I was transmitting to were picking up some sort of white noise during my transmissions? Almost like a background static or something that was apparently faint, but they bot...

Italian sammich and perogies... Both warmed to perfection and consumed at a high rate of speed. I didn't get any pics of the results but trust me when I tell you, this oven is probably the best vehicle modification I've ever done. Ever.

New Years Eve Run 2022
Our fragmented group included myself in the Bronco, Chris in the JT-R, Mike in the JKU-R, and we'd eventually meet up with Kevin in the Green JK-R and Brayden in the Taco. We met up and launched from the Maverik around 0700 in relatively clear but breezy conditions: IMG_1325.JPG As we rolled West, t...

Spare Tire Strap Rack
While this is hardly a new idea, the way I did it brings the price point down to some version of reality that is commensurate with what these things really are, and that is a couple of ratchet straps and some scrap iron. No triple digit "Overlander Cool Kid" tax for me  Starting with ...

Re: 2022 Bronco
So for today's arts & crafts session, I addressed something that is near and dear to my heart, and that is lunch... Starting with a 13x9 baking pan complete with lid, I made a bottom support plate out of 10ga galvanized sheet, drilled a couple of holes to match the bolt pattern on the head of th...

Re: 2022 Bronco
For comms, it seems the way of the future (and perhaps the now :? ) is GMRS... Not wanting to get left behind like my MS-DOS desktop computer, I dipped my toe into the water and ordered up a Midland MXT115, 3db gain antenna, and matching coaxial cable. Unfortunately, I was sent the wrong coaxial cab...

Re: Is there any interest in GMRS?
I'm all in on the conversion to GMRS... picked up a Midland MXT115 for the Bronco and a pair of Midland GXT1000VP4 handhelds during a Black Friday sales event. Registered for my FCC license today so should be good for upcoming run(s)

Ammo Can Firepit
Arts and Crafts day in the shop!! I love a good smoky campfire as much as the next guy, but I have to admit the idea of instant heat, and perhaps more importantly instant OFF, does have some appeal. These ammo can firepits have been around forever, and in fact if you are so inclined you can buy one ...

Re: New Years Day 2023
My vote would be 1302 or Nasty Creek... The downside to either is tow rig parking, as Nasty Creek tends to pack up pretty early anymore with SxS trailers and the parking lot at Windy Point is very narrow and hard to negotiate with a trailer on, especially once a few rigs are already parked around th...

...tires and wheels
Tired of storing the factory tires/wheels off the Bronco. 285/70r17 KO2's on 17x8 wheels with factory TPMS sensors and lugs included. They have about 2,500 miles on them and one trip to the hills. $1,200 for the set of four.

OG and I decided it would be fun to do a little wheeling and camping... Dryside came along for the day trip but made the wise decision to head back to the house when the wheeling was done. Here are some of the highlights

Snow Wheeling Season Opener 06Nov2022
With tales of bountiful snowfall at elevation, and nothing but destruction all around us from the massive windstorm a couple of days earlier, the decision to take in a change of scenery was an easy one. We met at Maverik for an 0700 departure under a gorgeous sunrise: IMG_0602.JPG IMG_0603.JPG As we...

Re: 2022 Bronco
With snow season looming, having the Bronco setup for moderate gravel road exploration simply won't cut it. Time for a little added elevation and flotation in the form of 2-1/2" of suspension lift and 37" BFG KO2 tires 8) IMG_0526.JPG IMG_0528.JPG IMG_0539.JPG IMG_0545.JPG IMG_0550.JPG IMG...
