Re: My First 4x4

Somebody didn't lock tight the ring gear bolts. yes. I think I might have not even torqued them proper as I was going to do that after loc-tite. I built this third on and off over a week period.....lesson learned. The other I did in one sitting....other than rushing it and not reshimming when a bea...

this is getting old.....and I need to get some pics uploaded.

Ended up chipping a front ring gear 2 weeks ago. Tore down the truck on Sunday and new gearset should be here tomorrow.

I think once this is sorted out the next big step is going to be a new bed for the truck

Re: My First 4x4

Already picked up a new third. I have elockers front and rear. Got a killer deal on it. My gears were good still but questioned the bearings so new ones are on the way.

Re: My First 4x4

I guess I need to update this thread more....just have been busy. Weds I thought I would drive my rig to the vanpool since I figured work would let out way late and by the time we made it back to town the roads would be horrible. Got out early and grabbed some groceries and while driving through the...

Re: My First 4x4

Went to funny rocks with some VIT plant people.... https://youtu.be/ky4rVkQRtzk Front diff is leaking from behind locker motor.....for some reason the front wasn't unlocking also. Drove up there and back pretty much ok (had one plug wire shift and short on a header but a zip tie took care of it) Nee...

Re: My First 4x4

I am not sure. The vortec coil has a driver....I know the power from the driver leaves a good jolt...would not want to find out the coil side of it.

Found the coil wire was grounding out to the fuel line. Tied the line back and all seems good now. Planning a run with guys from work to Ravens Roost on Sunday now.

Re: Where to find cb radio accessories in TC?

I would go online but I need to have it installed by friday morning when I leave. We are heading out towards walla walla so maybe I will dive into the truck stop and see what I can find. I was just hoping for a radio shop in town.

Where to find cb radio accessories in TC?

I need to get my cb up and running for this weekend and was wondering if there was a shop in town to get some parts? I need a new whip and maybe a spring base for it.

Re: My First 4x4

Wow. Sounds like your moving through the challenges of rig building pretty well. I meant that as a compliment ...I'll take it back. I took it as one...just this one is fighting me alot lately and looks like it is not making it to Moab so I am kinda bummed (packing and giving a last push to see if I...

Re: My First 4x4

timing is locked on a vortec, triggered off the crank. all you can do is phase the rotor in one tooth increments (roughly 40 degrees at the rotor)

I had a propane torch and tried that around but didn't get much response (unlit)

Re: My First 4x4

So for some reason this truck idles fine...but floods out if you try to give it any throttle. MAP reads ok (21" @ 570 rpm) MAF reads correct....was running great before the small fire and injector swap. Plug from new injector looks best out of all of them now. idles great. but will start cuttin...

Re: My First 4x4

Not my first automotive build.....not by a long shot.

Did some hiking yesterday and worked today. Hoping to get timing dialed in tonight and get a test drive under my belt (and a trip to the car wash)

Re: My First 4x4

Well friday I went to pull the intake and change the leaky intake gasket and swap a fuel injector that seemed to be leaking....did not get the injector fully seated causing a small engine fire from the gasoline that leaked out. Luckily the only damage was a couple melted wires for the cam sensor. Sp...

Brake lights stopped working during the swap for some reason (I think it traces back to loosing power or ground to the stop light relay in the dash) DONE!!! 3....

Re: My First 4x4

https://youtu.be/5rc5Pwd-Ow0 I managed to get the y-pipe finished up over the week/weekend and get a power steering pump that works on the truck. After a little mishap with a couple plug wires being out of order this was the final result. I need to take care of a little wiring on the ECU still (pas...
