Making the most of your AMC 2.5

I just cant help myself, I am a performance junkie. I just cant stop searching for that last little bit of hp... Before my engine build, I searched high and low for info on the 'net on how to tweak more power out of the AMC/Jeep 2.5, and just wasn't coming up with much info. I have since built the e...

Cherokee front bumper needs new home

I took the front bumper off my '84 Cherokee and it needs a new home. It is straight and in decent condition.

Wanted: Jeep 2.5 cylinder head

Hey guys,
I am looking for a decent stock cylinder head from a Jeep/AMC 2.5. Anyone have one lying around?

Well this one makes no noise when the engine is cold, but when it warms up the tapping starts. I dumped the Sea Foam in. Probably have about 50 miles on the engine now. Still making the same noise. I believe Sea Foam is just a strong oil-based detergent. I would do an oil change now and see what ha...

Mine is definately worse at an idle, and with 150K plus miles on the 4 banger it could be just about anything. I'm sure some day it will make itself known. Just a warning; if it is the cam chain tensioner (which it most likely is), the loose cam rattle will wreak havoc on your cam and distributor. ...

My axles are in great shape (I just installed all new gears, bearings, and seals) and I like the benefits of the disconnect. I'm sticking with 31's, so I'll just worry about upgrades if anything breaks. I just want to add a little bracing so the axles don't bend when I catch a little air. Thanks any...

Timing chains in 2.5/4.0 motors make an awful lot of noise when they wear out. Not a main bearing noise, but a generally loose feeling. When it's the timing set noise, it will be noisiest at idle, and fade away quickly when revved up. Those timing chain tensioners are pretty cheesy and fail often.

Anybody think Crash (on the board) is just talking about the work he's done on his 4 cylinder... take a look… he owned this BIG dune and he had all four in the air on some other dunes. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e242/iaccocca/DSC01535.jpg Not sure where I earned the name Crash, but that wo...

I would try the Marvels to see if it helps.

As for oil, I have recently become a fan of Valvoline Syn Power.

Project Cheep

So I figured I would do a little writeup on my wheeler project. I named it the Cheep, because it has been very low-cost, and I plan on melding the Cherokee and Jeep emblems once she gets painted. Less than 2 years ago, I acquired (free) a bone-stock 1984 Jeep Cherokee 4-door with a 2.5 4-cylinder, A...

What oil are you currently running? If it is pretty light, I would go with a heavier truck oil, like Mobil 1 15w50 or Shell Rotella T.

I have seen Marvels Mystery Oil do wonders to engines, also.

I stayed late. The cops showing up just before the Tough Truck event did alot of damage to the fun. That and the lack of organization made the Tough Truck and Tug of War events really poor. There was a little buggy there with a GSXR750 engine that threw some good roost and ripped around awful fast. ...

Dana 30 front gears, 3:73

Hey guys, I am installing 4:88's in the Cherokee since the rear ring gear lost some teeth last year. The front gears are still in excellent condition. Anyone want to take them off my hands before I Ebay them? Give me an offer I can't refuse. *EDIT* Application: 3:73's from an '84 Cherokee, high pini...

Are they both the same type of tire (bias-ply or radial)? I have noticed that bias-ply and old radials tend to flat-spot easily when parked, which can be exaggerated by cold weather. This has caused alot of problems for me in the past. Also, speaking of caster: I cut a section out of my upper contro...

I have tried Clearwire, totally sucks at my house.

I paid the big bucks and went with Charter. I hate their customer service, but it is by far the best and fastest connection. I have internet service only, no cable TV.

I do. I am not set up to do anything at my house yet, but hope to be by next Spring. I also have a friend that lives less than a mile from me who is finishing his paint shop behind his house right now. What all needs to be done? Damage repair? Or just a complete repaint? Most your cost will be labor...

Hey, psst, the 2.5 has alot of potential if built right... ;) There is a Cherokee in Benton City that you can probably get for real cheap. It's an '89 4-door 4.0 and is missing the trans/transfer case, wheels and tires, and maybe a few other parts. They said they dont have a title, though. I still h...

Dana 35 locker and carrier

Detroit EZ locker for sale still in the carrier. The carrier is the 3.54-up series that had factory 4.10's on it. Parts are in very good working condition. It is currently in a non-c-clip axle, but will work for either c-clip or non-c-clip. I blew a few teeth off the ring gear and am now installing ...

Hi everyone! I live in Pasco. I have a 1999 Merc Mounty as my occasional offroad rig, and a 1984 Jeep Cherokee for hard wheelin'. The Mounty has 31's, a 5.0 with Torque Monster headers and SCT retune, axle flip in the rear and torsion twist in the front. It has the factory 3:73 gears and posi in the...
