1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ

Postby tobyw » Tue Feb 11, 2014 6:01 pm

Just throwing this out there to see if there is any interest…

The bottom line is this: it’s a turn-key, do absolutely ANYTYHING vehicle. Run errands, commute to work, give it to your teenage daughter, drive across the United States, wheel pretty much any trail anywhere, you get the idea. It’s an extremely well put together package, not just hodgepodge of innernetz coolness. All the bugs are worked out, it literally needs nothing but fuel. And on that note, it’s good for an honest 16mpg on the freeway, 14mpg or so around town. Here’s a quick rundown:

• 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport, ~126k miles
• 4.0L, AW-4 automatic, NP-231 transfer case
• Power windows/locks/mirrors, keyless entry, overhead console with compass and temp display, cold A/C, tilt wheel, cruise control. Everything works flawlessly.
• D30 front axle with 4.56 gears, Spartan locker, and Ruff Stuff 3/8â€
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

Building a capable off roader is easy, building a street legal one that you can wheel and then drive daily is the challenge...

As it stands, I don't really have a backup plan, another project vehicle, or really even anything in my sites (OK, technically I do have plenty of other rigs to work on, but that's a different discussion  ). Those of you that know me, know that I just get bored. With that said, there are some significant changes I'd like to make to the XJ that, once complete, would drastically narrow the potential sales market. I'm just not certain that I'm ready to make such a long-term commitment with it, so I figured I'd toss it out there to see if anyone would want it as-is. IF it sells, great. If not, it will likely be a little different before the Rubicon expedition in June...
