1996 XJ 2 Door Auto 4.0

Postby OldGreen » Fri Jul 04, 2014 1:05 pm

I have had a change of plans in the family. Will is going to get Jess' Jeep and she is going to get a little commuter car for college, so his 2 door is on the block.

So. . .2 door, 8.25 rear (based on the build date, it SHOULD be 29 spline), 2XX,XXX miles. I never titled it but have the signed title that goes with it.

Needs some assembly right now and I will do it but the price will go up as things get done.

Need: PS Pump and Idler pulley installed. Parts arrive on Saturday and will go with the Jeep.

Tranny installed. I bought a low mileage unit, but, as it turns out the tranny was fine but the converter was trashed. So, the old tranny is currently on the ground and the new one is sitting next to it waiting to be installed. Flex Plate was broken. New one arrives on Saturday.

Needs a gas tank. Have sender, pump, etc. Used the tank on my project. Tank costs $35 to $45 from a wrecking yard. If I don't get a bite today, I will buy a tank on Saturday and install it. Again, price will increase.

Needs rear windows installed. I got the kind with the little wings. Just need to be put in.

Wiring for the hatch needs to get put together. comes with a green hatch with glass and its orignal hatch without glass.

Other odds and ends too. . .needs a front bumper, I have one to go with it. Needs a header panel. . .you'll have to find that. Interior is in good shape.

Comes with 6 tires. 2 33x10.50 BFGs and 2 33x12.50s on rims and another pair of 33x12.50s without rims. The 10.50s are in great shape. One is a KM2 and the other is a KM. The 12.50s are probably 20 or 25%. Good enough for summer if you lift it.

Speaking of lift, I am keeping the suspension and replacing it with stock stuff. The front control arms are already off and on my other Jeep, but the springs, shocks, and adjustable track bar along with the stainless brake lines are all still on it. If you want this stuff, it will be more $$$. I will throw in the swaybar discos though. I don't use them.

Runs Great! When I had it running the AC worked. . .no wiring issues, etc. Manual windows/locks/mirrors, etc. Tinted windows. White with Black trim. Flowmaster exhaust with Cat delete.

Will need a windshield down the road. Those are $175 installed in el Pasco.

Possible uses: Build it and wheel it. Use the drivetrain for a project. Get some 235s and DD it. Jump it. Demo Derby.

The suspension comes OFF tomorrow morning so if you want that, you need to jump on it. It will be running and driving by Sunday so the price will go UP significantly.

This is the unicorn XJ. 1996 is the last year of the correct XJ body style and 2 doors are like hens teeth. It has the new serpentine system and the 29 spline axle from the later/round body style but still looks like a classic. It has dents and dings from the PO but the uniframe is straight and everything is as described.

Prices: $1200 as it sits without suspension
$1900 with suspension (it is this kit less the control arms plus Edlebrock Shocks: Lift Kit

$2000 running and driving or $2700 with the lift

This pic has frost in the window. . .but here it is:

Ok, it now is lowered to a 2" lift. Still has the bling shocks. Needs tranny installed, etc. Have everything but the gas tank.

$1200 as it sits.

My new ad:

First, the body and motor. 2 DOOR, Decent shape, 29 spline 8.25 rear end, D30 front, 33" tires, 2" lift, 4.0 . All electrical/interior is there. Motor is in good shape and ran fine before I took the tranny out. 250k miles. Interior is decent. I have the title. I also have the side window glass with the wing vents that open. Comes with a Rubicon Express adjustable track bar, sweet Edlebrock Shocks, a new idler pulley, and a brand new flex plate. $600

Transmission : AW4 seems to be in good shape. Removed because I thought it was bad, but it turned out that the flexplate was broken and not the transmission. Comes with NP231 transfer case. It is the kind with the sealed output. $300

Transmission #2: AW4, no transfer case, really good shape, low miles unit. $200

Either would be PERFECT for a TJ or LJ swap. Wife is TICKED and wants the driveway back. Make me an offer on the whole thing and you are very close to a really sweet lifted Jeep on 33s. 1996 2 door is the unicorn of XJs. deal. . .wifey really wants it gone so we can revalue the vehicle situation. If you buy the shell, keep the motor and salvage the rest

As usual, when I decide to sell anything, it has to go. I am sick of looking at it and have other priorities. Come get it all for $800. Make money parting it out if you want. I have no patience for that. Better hurry....

Jim, we got a lot of it put back together and fired it up tonight, started right up. Still have to find a fuel tank, hookup exhaust, drivelines, and install the PS pump. Installed the original transmission, hopefully it's ok, the output shaft spins so I'm thinking it's good.

Well it moves now! We picked up a fuel tank today and put it in. It backed out of the garage ok. Was a little concerned at first because it didn't move at all when we put it gear.. but realized it just needed some tranny fluid.

I bought that Comanche... it's too far gone to rebuild but will be good for parts.. and it comes with another engine from a '95 8). Couldn't pass it up for $200.
