Wanted: Help with Family Style Roll Cage

Anyone out there in need of some cash and willing to help me build a family style roll cage for my scrambler? No extreme wheeling, just need shoulder belts for kids sitting in back.
Right now i have the oem bar with a second oem bar modified to make the cage. Don't love it. that 3" tubing is just too much metal. See picture. Not my scrambler but same setup.
So, now I'm stuck. Buy a $600 kit, or try and make myself. Prefer to attempt myself and get what I want, just don't have the resources or know-how but would love to learn. Any advice/input/volunteers, would be great.

You might find a late model YJ cage, get a kit for the front and add bars as necessary. The YJ kit has bungs for the shoulder belts and goes back behind the rear seats.
Here is the profile. . .your Jeep is longer of course but the B-Pillar bars will bolt in to your floors.

I have a tube bender, knotcher and welder. Never tried a cage before but I'm willing to try it with ya. I have built the bumpers for my land cruiser and spent several years making metal art projects to an artist in the town I grew up in so I am not a newb.
Shoot me a PM and we can get together and talk about it.

I'm with OG, the YJ family cages is a good start, add the front bars from trail-gear, and a couple extra (B-C and C-C). All this can be done without a bender exempt the C-C tube.
I'd also find a good welder.

Thanks for the replies.
I agree with you guys. The YJ would be a great start. Assuming I could find a used one. However, if I go that route wont I need 2 YJ roll bars? 1 set to place in very back of scrambler, and another B (hoop) placed behind front seats to cover the extra distance of the CJ8? I got two rows of bench seats in back with last seat almost at the tailgate. So I need coverage all the way back.
There is a used TJ bar on craigslist. Not sure if its same dimensions, but I am gonna take a look this week if its still available.

Think you are pretty well stuck with a custom cage if you want shoulder belts for all seats. Probably try to find rear belts out of a YJ or TJ for the rear two seats.
Going to guess it should look similar to this:

There are a few companies that make seatbelt mounts for custom cages but it's mostly a sleeve to not crush the tube when tightened down.

http://www.tmrcustoms.com/store/index.p ... ts_id=2010Not sure if this helps... but just drill and insert this for seat belt anchor depending on tubing diameter.

So looked at a stock LJ roll bar yesterday. It seems like it might be a good starting point. Doesnt go all the way back but its deeper than the YJ and has all the seat-belts and mounting points. At least get me shoulder belts to middle row.
With some adjustment to the c pillar and a little help from pascoscout, it might work.
Thoughts?

Thought? Just mine:
Cut and splice the back bars to the length needed. This will be close for the 3 row.
Cut and splice will probably need to done to the rear bars to reach the floor
Run a bar down for the middle seat, put sleeves in for seatbelt mounts.
Run a bar, left to right, to tie the back bars together.
Run a bar from the B-pillar to the back bar just above the fender.

Good stuff, but the 76 and up bars are odd sizes. The YJ one I just go done with is 2 1/8"ish OD might be hard to find a standard size to splice with. The welder also told me the YJ main loop is thinner than .120" wall, but not sure what it is.

Believe everything in silver is off his TJ unlimited. He is doing some crazy mods for an upcoming jeep rally. Really good guy.
Full list of of stuff available is here.

Just keep your hands off the LJ roll bar!

There is what looks like an LJ bar on the Facebook, 509 Crawlers.
It's in Kennewick and $50.

I have a stock TJ roll bar. If you're interested in it let me know. It has been through a complete roll over in the desert but has the rear seat belt mounts.
