Shocks

Postby oddball » Wed May 31, 2017 6:36 pm

Looking for shocks for my daughters 95 Grand Cherokee. She says it has the "death wobble" so I'm starting with shocks. Any other suggestions for a cure would be appreciated.

Front wheel bearings don't appear to be sloppy. Tire pressure and wear are fine. Steering and suspension components nuts/bolts are tight. I could not see anything with obvious wear or shiny.

Control arm bushings do need to be replaced.

Have some one shake the steering wheel back and forth while you look at all the steering and suspension parts. Pay close attention to the track bar bushings and steering linkage.
You can follow me.... but it's gonna hurt ;)

The front end of a Cherokee is the same as a TJ including the steering. Here's a list:

Check the track bar and bushings as Tim mentioned. Nuts should be torqued to 90 ft lbs I believe.

Check the control arms up front upper and lower, especially the bushings. This is what did it on mine. The bushings were crap. I went adjustable at this point on the arms. If your bushings are bad replace them or find someone with a good set of stock arms from either a stock TJ or Cherokee as they are interchangeable.

As you mentioned it could be shocks.

As Tim mentioned, get someone to turn the wheel and look for something weird going on with the steering.

There's also the steering damper but putting on a new one will only mask the symptoms and they'll come back.

Does it have a lift? I have some very lightly used Rough Country 2.2 performance, they were on my LJ until I went bilstein 5160"s
They can be had for cheap.
