Lifepo4 swap into RV

Postby Roman » Tue Apr 22, 2025 7:22 pm

First upgrade this camping season!
Swapping 2 280ah Lifepo4 batteries w/ BT into our Country Coach Diesel Pusher :thu2:

Should just about double usable power AND withstand inadvertent flat lining (Already done it twice  )

Batts just arrived today, installed app and got the first one on a charger. They were both right around 30% charge. Poor little 10ah NOCO has a long journey ahead!!!

I also got a Li-Bim thingy that takes the place of the self Jumpstart solenoid. Supposed to help take load off chassis alternator by disconnecting house deep cycles every 15 minutes to let alternator cool.

Nice! That should be plenty of power for a weekend, or two lol.

I put one 100ah in mine for the 12v system. And swapped in one of these charger/converters: https://a.co/d/9UFDN4D

Charges much faster than the original, and at 14.6 volts. Takes around 1.5 hours to charge when fully depleted.

The motorhome has a pretty wiz bang converter/charger already. Can set voltage for Lifepo4 and we'll see what the available charge rate is. It charges the AGM at 100a on shore power.

Yes, those batts can definitely tax the alternator! They can pull a lot more power and charge way faster.

Does that motorhome have solar?

Got the Li-Bim installed also, replaces the isolation solenoid and has some smart functionality. Like stated earlier, it disconnects the deep cycles on a set schedule while driving to allow the alternator to cool. It also back feeds the starting battery while on shore power. All while maintaining the ability to self jumpstart if needed.

Wrench, this coach doesn't have solar (yet) It handled 3 days of camping just fine but weather wasn't hot and didn't run the furnace, I tried Sunday morning, but no response. It wasn't till I got home and looked it up that I should've checked the diesel boiler control panel under the coach for faults. Still learning this new beast.

P.S. The RV Antifreeze taste is starting to go down
