My new D44...

Postby ROMMICON » Fri Feb 27, 2009 9:06 am

Thanks to bobracing, I've obtained a new rear end for my TJ. It's a D44 out of a 75 Scout... It's a little narrower than stock, but not enough to worry about, so Saturday I got it down to the shop to work on it. Cleaned off rust, dirt, checked gears (ratio is the same!!!!) and prepared for bracket placement.

After checkin all the measures and angles, cut brackets off of D35 and cleaned up for new axle. Then placed them on the D44...

Also bought new brake shoes, cylinders, had drums spun, but can't find camera to take the fancy pics... Last night got the axle under jeep, pics not uploaded yet, coming soon... check back later...
wow...

For the most part, it's all hooked up... I think... Just need to bleed some brakes, and do some rookie alignment and off we go!!! Check out my new control arms!!!

Sure hope it works!!! The only snag I have run into was the placement of my passenger side shock bracket is a little too far inward, causing an interference of shock with tailpipe... might have to move it...

Watch the jam nuts on those tractor links, they don't like to stay tight

Grade 8 bolts for grade 1 heims. Brilliant! They'll be making plenty of noise soon enough. You'll be changing them out in the very near future.

So I should tell him what a grand idea it is to use junk parts on the rig? Those heims are garbage from the start sorry to say. I understand why they were used but there are much better alternatives out there. At least I didn't mention the bad idea of using an axle with some of the thinnest axle tubes out there.

Yeah well as far as I'm concerned the price was right, so we'll see what happens I guess.
