Project/No Project
Prerun was a massive success. . .
However, wifey is a shorty so she needed a boost. Also, I have a little issue with running into stuff that't like to move on its own. . .so. . .
Toby and I designed (by Toby and I, I mean that he designed them and I agreed) these stump sliders that also double as handy wife-steps.
I just started installing mine on Orville tonight. I still need to drill all MOST of the holes (I have drilled 8 holes so far and there are 24 on each slider), but the driver's side is all lined up. The bad news is that O is NOT straight...not even close. So, there is some massaging going on. Then I'll cap off the ends and maybe do a brace or two in the center.

More progress on the first one. I may have mentioned that O isn't straight. . .so I spent a couple of hours this morning pushing/pulling and otherwise coercing the body close to its original position. This is a progress pic, but all of the holes have since been drilled and the nutserts are all set. I can now bolt it up with ALL of its hardware. So, the only thing left on the driver's side is to cut and cap the ends. EDIT: and PIANT. I'm very seriously considering just clear coating it and putting some strips of grip tape on top for wifey's tootsies.. .
Looks great!
I put some of that 3M no skid tape on the nerf bars that used to be on my Jeep. Good stuff. It sticks really good and stayed put for over 3 years.
It will also grate the skin right off of your leg if you exit the Jeep in an uncoordinated fashion.
I am not sure how that happened.

Done with the Driver's side. Passenger side is getting its last few holes before final fit up. I had to come in. . .to damn hot. They'll be ready for paint tomorrow. Mine are not as pretty as Toby's at the end of the day, but I feel pretty good about finishing them. I polish a chair with my butt and run around airports for a living. . .this is WAY outside of my skill set.

Yesterday I put the rear swaybar back in. The on-road difference is marked. Also, it rendered the rear locker invisible on the street. I made this non-mod to confirm Toby's findings. . and, they are now confirmed.
Refresh us on those findings...

Building a capable off roader is easy, building a street legal one that you can wheel and then drive daily is the challenge...

Funny, I had removed my rear swaybar , after a while, I wondered if I wasn't still rolling too much (body) and noticed when side hilling the suctioning of my seat seemed to increase. So I returned the swaybar and have been much happier...
Trackbar has never left, but I'm wondering if I can remove my right front upper control arm, seems I read something recently that it doesn't really do much in way of the suspension...

Because your links are not triangulated, you have to keep the track bar. . .or you will die almost instantly. I've seen a couple of them come loose at speed and it is NOT pretty.
Many custom set ups don't use that upper right hand mount. I like to think of it as a safety feature more than anything. If one side fails, the other keeps the axle from rotating. . .These front ends flex out pretty doggone well as it is.
