A little project last night and tonight. I wired up the brake controller, permanently routed the CB wire and mounted the 7 way and tested it. We are doing a pre run this weekend.....

I also saw a picture of the final mod.....man, I am excited.

We are preparing to embark on an expedition of epic proportions. The pre run is a shorter jaunt to test systems. I have identified a tiny bit of Fab work...but everything seems good.

Prerun was a massive success. . .

However, wifey is a shorty so she needed a boost. Also, I have a little issue with running into stuff that't like to move on its own. . .so. . .

Toby and I designed (by Toby and I, I mean that he designed them and I agreed) these stump sliders that also double as handy wife-steps.

I just started installing mine on Orville tonight. I still need to drill all MOST of the holes (I have drilled 8 holes so far and there are 24 on each slider), but the driver's side is all lined up. The bad news is that O is NOT straight...not even close. So, there is some massaging going on. Then I'll cap off the ends and maybe do a brace or two in the center.

More progress on the first one. I may have mentioned that O isn't straight. . .so I spent a couple of hours this morning pushing/pulling and otherwise coercing the body close to its original position. This is a progress pic, but all of the holes have since been drilled and the nutserts are all set. I can now bolt it up with ALL of its hardware. So, the only thing left on the driver's side is to cut and cap the ends. EDIT: and PIANT. I'm very seriously considering just clear coating it and putting some strips of grip tape on top for wifey's tootsies.. .

Looks great! 8)

I put some of that 3M no skid tape on the nerf bars that used to be on my Jeep. Good stuff. It sticks really good and stayed put for over 3 years.

It will also grate the skin right off of your leg if you exit the Jeep in an uncoordinated fashion.

I am not sure how that happened.

Randomish pic: Here's O at full droop when I got the tires balanced. Full compression is inside the wheel arches.

Done with the Driver's side. Passenger side is getting its last few holes before final fit up. I had to come in. . .to damn hot. They'll be ready for paint tomorrow. Mine are not as pretty as Toby's at the end of the day, but I feel pretty good about finishing them. I polish a chair with my butt and run around airports for a living. . .this is WAY outside of my skill set.

T-Minus is right. . .56 HOURS to launch for me. . .and the list is down to "as long as my arm".

I'm sure yours will look better than mine. I suck at both welding and painting. . .and I lost my tape measure. . .

Another non-update, update for documentation's sake.

Yesterday I put the rear swaybar back in. The on-road difference is marked. Also, it rendered the rear locker invisible on the street. I made this non-mod to confirm Toby's findings. . and, they are now confirmed.

Refresh us on those findings...

Building a capable off roader is easy, building a street legal one that you can wheel and then drive daily is the challenge...

He found that his locker went silent when he put it back on. His intent was to add a little rate around corners cuz of a sagging leaf pack. The unintended result was the locker realizing less weight transfer and quieting down.

Same thing happened to me. LOVE!!!

Funny, I had removed my rear swaybar , after a while, I wondered if I wasn't still rolling too much (body) and noticed when side hilling the suctioning of my seat seemed to increase. So I returned the swaybar and have been much happier...

Trackbar has never left, but I'm wondering if I can remove my right front upper control arm, seems I read something recently that it doesn't really do much in way of the suspension...

Because your links are not triangulated, you have to keep the track bar. . .or you will die almost instantly. I've seen a couple of them come loose at speed and it is NOT pretty.

Many custom set ups don't use that upper right hand mount. I like to think of it as a safety feature more than anything. If one side fails, the other keeps the axle from rotating. . .These front ends flex out pretty doggone well as it is.

On a TJ, I get a bit too much flex in the front with the swaybars disconnected. I don't know how it is on a JK, but from pictures I've seen it's probably similar - there's no flex problems up front.
