The reality here is I'm in a new baseball diamond, and will learn just what it takes to get to where I want to be... Of course it would help immensely if I knew now where that is or will actually be.

This is all learning, and as many of you know no lesson is learned easily, there must be pain and torture for them to stick. LOL Hopefully we'll work out all the bugs within the next 5-6 years. Then it's retirement and a cool gig in Moab....

Speaking of Moab Tara and I are loosely planning to go next easter if anybody might care to tag along in any capacity....

I favor the Toyo MTs probably a 35 inch

FYI..I would stay away from Toyo's.. they are extremely heavy and are horrible in the snow.. I bought a Cherokee with 37" Toyos once and they sucked. The only reason you see so many of them running around town is because Les Schwab sells them as their "quality" tire.. which isn't saying much . And stick with a 15" rim.

My Money would go toward the following:

1. 2" budget boost: $200ish
2. 33x12.50R15 Goodyear Duratracs x4 $770 SHIPPED from tirecrawler.com
3. 15x8" steel wheels: Maybe $200 or less
4. ONE LOCKER: Spartan, Rear: Probably $250 from a Pirate4x4 vendor

5. SELL your JK Rubi tires/wheels for $600

NET: You gain 3" of altitude total and spend about $650

You will think you are a HERO. The 33s will float WAY better than the 255s, the new clearance will gain you a little confidence in the snow. . .and the locker. . .well. . .no comparison.

The good news is that when the tires wear out, you are all set to put on a bigger lift and 35x12.50R15s on your wheels. . .or sell the whole works to somebody that is looking.

Oh. . .on the tires:

You'll want radials on the JK for street duty, sand, and snow.

Toyos look cool, but aren't that good performance wise.

The newer BFGs blow beads. . .dunno why

Yes, I am sponsored by Goodyear, but I BUY the tires for my Jeep at retail. I am not required to and could buy anything I want. It is a chicken/egg thing: I chose THEM, not the other way around.

Also, I'm a fan of cooper STTs. I know very few are, but I like them. . .also if you ever go big, I LOVED my Pitbulls. . .but you need to be 37"+ in them. The 35s were just too wide.

Love the OME lift for the trails and especially on the highway. Better than stock ride at 70mph or around town, the only shortcoming is it's a 2.5in lift.

So the IRS is a crafty foe, they decided that they were no longer going to wait out a disputed piece of property that Tara once shared back in 2009, so they kindly reached into our refund wallet and lifted a little over $1400 out of our $2200 refund.

Now that just makes a guy wanna piss all over the IRS, and I would if I could get close enough to 'em!


So after some fast thinking, our lifts are ordered as are our new sliders. Now we've proven that each of us have varied opinions but this is where we ended up, try to remember we're broke before commenting and that Rubicon takeoffs while thoughtful, would be a waste of time and energy.


We ended up back to Rough Country RC-609S for the JK and ironically RC-906 for the TJ

Hey david, Tara's 31x10.50x15s did great Sunday (3/4/12 on the same trail we were on Saturday... I'm still a proponent of these even though I know them to be heavier... The guys at http://www.Project-JK.com run 40 inch Toyo MTs with great results...
