Personally, the only thing I find disturbing is the panty-bunching.

Indeed. Hitting a rig you have financed with a quadratec catalog doesn't mean you can do anything better than the guy that has been resourceful and stayed out of debt by not attempting to keep up with the jonses. The guy in the cheap rig has more fun 99.999% of the time too. Thats a fact I read on Wikipedia.

Wikomania! I cry foul! I believe I have more fun 100% of the time, even with my financing (which was quite resourceful), I'm comfy, look good and make peeps wonder what kinda Red-Neck Idiot I might be bashing up/in a perfectly good JK...

Just saying...

Julia got new shoes, and things are coming together for her lifestyle lift. Lol should be pulling the trigger on the front axle upgrade. So Dave get that piggy bank out and let's talk...

Looks much better on 37's. And 10-4 on the piggy bank. I just need to confirm that a JK D30 locker will fit in a TJ D30. Everything I have looked at as far as part #'s on-line are the same.

27 spline right? I should get some upgraded front shafts before it goes in. I'm sure that subject has come up a couple times on some run reports! :lip:

JK D30 and TJ/ZJ/YJ D30 guts will interchange (stock-stock 27 spline). When I blew the D30 carrier in Minivan v1.0 it was replaced with one from a ZJ...
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

8) THANK YOU Toby!, that is the response I was looking for from someone who has had both model D30's apart.

So Lance, if it's a 27 spline E-Locker, we are good to go. I will not be able to do anything until I get back from the Jamboree after the 14th. 8)

You might need to make sure your gear ratios are in a similar range though though... Pretty sure the D30 has a carrier break around 3.73. Not sure if the aftermarket carriers (for lockers) are divided like stock carriers or not? Someone with more Google foo than myself could probably get that figured out in no time flat.

I'm at 4.88's open right now, he has 5.13's on a full case selectable E-locker.
I wish I could keep the 5.13's and get matching gears for the rear, but a TJ D30's limit is 4.88's. That is where my question concerning the difference between the TJ vs JK stems from.

Main difference is the ring/pinion. JK's use a high pinion setup, whereas the TJ's used a low pinion. I believe they also increased the diameter of the JK pinion shaft itself, which allows for more teeth options and thus the ability to get deeper gears. At any rate, the carrier is interchangeable.

I don't know if the research has been fine in the 30 yet but karl jantz has a kit to put JK 44 gears in a normal d44 (chev ect) he is probably the one to contact with that info

If Toby is correct, the pinion shafts are different. If you have the right bearings to convert it, I imagine it is possible. Are the ring gear diameters the same? Just because the carriers are interchangeable does not mean the pumpkin housings accommodate the same diameter ring gears. If they are not identical, the pinion depths may be totally off.

Negative. The JK pinion bearings are larger than the XJ D30 snout will allow. Not saying it fully CAN'T be done, but not stock-stock.

So the last time Ms Mandi took Julia out to the Dunes for 3 ball, we had some contact issues with the D30 1 o'clock bolt head catching the new steering brace bolt head...

Knowing that the problem might escalate when we stuff the D44 under the nose, Bryan & I decided it was time to add longer bump-stops. However, once we got in there we also decided that the newer bump-stops probably weren't enough so we put in the old pucks that we had taken off the white TJ a year or so ago.

The end result, no front rake and a nice level stance on her new 37's...

Next order my guts for the D44 and get it installed with a gear change to 5.38, ARB 35 spline RCVs in the front and gear swap in the rear (maybe a new clutch pack).

Hope to be ready to pull the Rimrock Club run... Fingers crossed!

Parts ordered, front HD 44 should be all together and in in time for Rimrock! And I only used my shiny CC to cover some outstanding income due in this and next week so it's all paid for...

Well after two trips to Rimrock/Nile I'm happy to say my new D44 kicks a$$ combined with the 37s I'm using my new ARB less than I did the Eaton. I run 6 or 7 psi and crawl over or through everything I point Julia at.

Having installed RCVs I'm very confident in her new front end (aka Lifestyle lift). She wheeled excellently at Funny Rocks, my trail doors are a little different but are growing on me. Should be changing out the diff oil this weekend and look forward to many more wheeling trips this year. In fact Ms. Mandi mentioned doing a run over Labor Day, not sure where but she really enjoyed the Rimrock area...

The most amazing thing is how much difference an extra 1.5 inches of clearance makes...

Julia gets a facelift

So I'm over at Bryan's last night and a kid with a 2door JK hits me up about swapping grilles. It seems he wanted to black out his rig and saw more trinket chrome door handles and figured it'd be a good swap, so I took him up on it.

I also have some Truck-Lite LED Headlights (Gen II) on the way so the contrasting blackout lights (when off) should look really cool...

What do you think?

Back Handed Compliment of the day:

I love the fact that your JK, from a distance, looks like the typical "beaten into submission with the Quadratec catalog, poser wannabe, mall crawlin', pavement princess, 4 door, psuedo Hummer". . .but actually gets used for its intended purpose.

Flatbillers, trophy soccer moms, and compensators probably give you the thumbs up on the highway, but would be SHOCKED to see what you actually do in that thing. In fact, it would scare them to death.

So. . .keep on pimpin'. . .it ain't my thing, but I'm still lovin' the concept.

Unsolicited advice: Please cage it. You could even do one that was all blingtastic. . .but, safety, recovery and durable traction/floatation should always be the first order of operations. You've overkilled the recovery and have a solid program for traction (suspension, axles, tires). . .take it from a guy that has been upside down on the trail. . .a hard roof is a good thing to have. In fact, my current project will get caged before it ever sees dirt even though it has a metal roof.

You know you wanna:
