Yes, breaks can be VERY spendy.

Or was that not a typo? :P

Last minute (before FYBR) upgrades...

AntiRock Swaybar. Synergy High Steer. Some Teraflex Spring Retainers, cut another 1/2 a coil in front and we finally made the Bilstien Remotes - well remote. Then the test drive. And a flex check... Steering is all nice and tight again!

So FYBR was a great trip, BUT...

We had some rubbing issues in the rear. I know big shocker 37" tires in a 33" wheel well... So onward we go, of course we have now watched and researched many Rock Krawler kits and came to a decision. Since we basically had the back, all we needed for the front was LCAs, I thought why not jump. Along with that, now that we had mismatched springs the ride wasn't what we hoped for so, out with the old hacked springs and in with some rated Rock Krawler 5.5 in lift springs...

Operation Anti-Goth

Before the bump in height, Julia has gotten tired of her "Goth" stylings and decided to brighten things up a little...

First the shoes...

Powdering her nose...

Oh and of course she couldn't have newer looking shoes without matching sleeves (Yrjan's old stock fenders repurposed)...

Okay yeah, that's the end of my lifting the JK, she's plenty high enough, and surprisingly not too high (unless you're trying to climb in) actually sits pretty level. Now the fun part steering/alignment all over again, no fun here we guessed as best we could before the "Big Pop" and then I called RK, as I could find no install info on the 5.5 Mid Arm Lift. Well that's because it's being discontinued due to poor sales, the rep stated most guys going that tall opt for a long arm set-up. I told him I'd opt for that too if they'd give it to me for what I spent on the mid arm.

So he sent me some comp stickers and instructions...

Finally, some technical numbers to follow, and how weird make the arms and trackbar match these numbers and alignments do actually work... Doh! :banghead

So the first 6 trips to Casaday Beeline, were just to get to know them better... LOL

When the springs and arms finally showed up it was game on! But Being a girl, Julia wasn't completely satisfied with her new look. She demanded more silver accouterments, to carry the flow...

Image

Now she says too much silver on her behind...

So to appease her we added a little more red (besides the high school painted caliper mod), plus someone mentioned gas cans are supposed to be red...

Good new for those who have been around her in the dark, you can now see her nosepicker, before you run into it... Just sayin'...

Next it goes to Nissan to get a Front Main Seal replaced and a day at the Spa (Detailed) before we head to Vancouver for PNW4WDA's Winter Convention...

First of all, THANK YOU for ditching the black wheels. Kudos.

Second, gas cans are indeed supposed to be red. Again, kudos.

That is all.
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

We had to update our little slideshow showing the building of Julia to date some, as well as shorten it up... The older file will get deleted...

Prepping for our upcoming Rubicon 2014 trip...

So we own a nice tubing bender, but time got away from us so I jumped out the and grabbed the last available BOLT IN cage from Poison Spyder Customs... We simple let time get away from us and found that this would be the most expedient route to having the needed protection for the Rubicon.

Along with time slipping away it seems the PSC had a run on their cages probably due to the masses going to Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. So of course when I looked into purchasing it, I found that Northridge had none, and they called PSC only to find they were 3-4 weeks out on delivery with 12 others ahead of me. Can you say PANIC?

So I proceeded to call other vendors finally finding one in stock that turns out was a cancelled order in Florida, and had the handles for the A-Pillar. Lucky for me! I then called PSC back and ordered a C-Pillar kit. A few days later all the pieces arrived and we set about installing it.

Thaks to BryansFab for the help and some fast (and close quarters welding we got it in, then back out for painting, then re-installed over a few days (because my job got in the way).

Below are some pics of the install...

Still left to do before Rubicon 2014...

1. Fix rear locker & pinion seal
2. Add my extended brakelines & longer shocks
3. Lengthen axle vent tubes
4. Swap out front (& rear?) Brake pads
5. Fab and install new sliders
6. Replace all rock lights
7. Cover tube doors (1/2 doors)

Hoping to knock the rest of this out this week...

So I got the extended brakelines installed, with new front pads. Finished the Cage with the edition of the Framily Bar (B-Pillar harness bar). Got my rear trackbar relocated to the rear, and got my vent tubes extended.

All that's left is...
1. Cover tube doors (1/2 doors)
2. Fab and install new sliders
3. Replace all rock lights

Load out and gas up...

Bad news, you'll notice the rear ARB locker wasn't listed, this is because it turns out that it will be taking a field trip back to the ARB factory for some kind of family reunion, so it's decided to attend but not participate on the Rubicon Trail adventure...

We speculate after looking closer that the internal seals (as in like the spider gears area) are we're thinking the final casualties in the overheating of January.

So I've taken some ribbing about my "bolt-on" Smittybuild sliders (aka outriggers) over the last year or two, so...

Adios Outriggers!

The beginnings of the new improved sliders... Hope to complete tomorrow night? Welded boatsides...

Well we originally had a step in mind but in retrospect, and after being Rubicon tested, I'm very happy with how the new sliders turned out...

So if you're considering a set of these puppies, be prepared to drop about $450 to have them built, or get your $600-1000 aftermarket sliders. Having fully tested these on our recent trip to the Rubicon Trail, I can tell ya these are the BOMB!

Image

Oh yeah, my old "Outriggers" (Smittybuilt XRC sliders) are available for $150, if ya know anyone in need.
