Yes, it's a station wagon. Yes, there is relatively prolific storage behind the rear seat. Yes, I am often accused of packing too much junk (just ask my wife ). However, spare axle shafts and bearings are something that every wheeling rig should have stored somewhere, and even with the aforementioned qualites of the mighty XJ, I wasn't satisfied with my options. So, out came the grinder and hot glue gun...
And the payoff...
Secure under-seat storage for two complete shaft assemblies (the shafts are retained with quick clamps) and a unit bearing

Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
Yep, it's only a matter of time; any XJ that gets wheeled with any sort of regularity will succumb to stress issues. GGv1.0 went the way of the accordian below the rear windows, and had several stress cracks throughout the unitbody. The doors would barely open/close on flat ground, let alone when twisted up on the trail somewhere...
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
