Chris, your a humble sort  Super Mex gets to do the driveshafts and such. Son Steve is pretty good with body work, so HE gets that part of it now :sneak: I just do the wrench work :!: Need to get Mr. Moss to supervise getting the clutch going, too. With the AX15, the old stuff went in the dumper, and we get a new fangled hydraulic clutch

Well, guess I best inflict some kind of update on everyone :!: The t-case is now residing in it's permanent home behind the AX15  I took Jose's advice and stuffed it up there less the mounting studs so I could wobble it around to see what was the issue. Well, I now feel like an idiot  I thought I'd tried every angle, and it turns out I missed the one that will get it up in the frame. The next step is to jack it up and see what hits. Looks like we'll have to build a small "Doghouse" in front of the passenger seat to make room :glare: Also will need to get the tranny mount (Gotta buy one) in place, then modify the cross member. Then comes drive shafts :!: I also have the brake master cylinder and booster out so I can modify the inner fender well to make room for the clutch master cylinder. Need to cut a fair size chunk out. Fun working on a rig that was never intended to have a 5spd or hydraulic clutch  We have asked Mr. Moss to oversee this, as he's got a couple installs to his credit :D Still not too clear in my mind what we really need as far as suspension :conf: I'll deal with in another post after we get driveline issues and tweaks taken care of :glare: Enough for now. My one typing finger is tired

Right now just worry about finishing the tranny/t-case issues. I may have a new tranny mount over here that'll fit. Then see if the stock crossmember will still work, of if . . .

I would tackle the clutch next, leaving Steve with as much time as possible to figure out/save up funds for which ever suspension route he decides. The drivelines will have to be worked out after the suspension, heighth/length issues and all.

So, we decide the suspension gets done along with the rest :?: :? At this point, I want it on the ground, drivable :!: That way, issues with the engine, clutch, etc., can get ironed out while he works out details on the suspension :idea:And, there's always the cage to contend with :glare: I'm going to take a run at getting as much done this weekend as my old body will tolerate  Gonna get real friendly with the air tools  Even if it interupts his saturday nap :twisted:All I need right now is the rear shaft to get it rolling, which should be easy...More later :)

Hydraulics for the clutch are in . Need to cut the plastic keeper on the slave cylinder, so don't let me forget :? Jose, may we steal your welder :?: Need to have Steve turn the peice I cut out of the inner fender and tack it back in to protect the master cylinder from mud and crud :!: Not too sure what I'll do to the line between the two. Doesn't fall into place quite like I'd hoped. It'll have to go below the brake booster and get restrained so we don't wear a hole in it :glare:Himself needs to get in there and drill the clutch lever, too. I'd feel better, Jimmy, if you could wander over and have a look :!: I think we're okay, just want a second opinion  So, next to pull the seat and floor mats out of the passenger side so I can chop another hole in the body work...

Got the floor mats and sound insulation out yesterday :( Found some cancer :!: Could be a lot worse, but will have to taken care of as soon as reasonable  At least the rockers aren't gone :!: :!: Lots of surface, and it's thru in some of the interior panels. Steve won't be able to look hard at it till tomorrow, so I may just finish some clean up today. May try to post some pix later...

Finally got the cut out for the t-case done :woot: Had to take a bit more that I was expecting to clear the linckage mount and have room on the other end to get at the fill plug :glare: Got a slot about 5x12" now, and Steve gets to practice his tin bending :winkk: So, now it's finish the clutch linckage and brackets, modify the rear frame cross member for the trans mount, fab bases and mount the front seats, put the Recaro material on the rear seat, put on the new lift gate, make a bracket for the heater hoses, put in the starter, shore up the rusted floor boards, put in a cage, mount a CB...And I ain't even gonna get back in to the suspension for now :madd: Anybody think of anything I forgot :uns:

Got to looking at the thing last nite a bit. Something that's been bubbling on the back burner for me is the brakes. We will have 4 wheel discs, and the stock setup likely won't power them properly. So, I'm thinking a Hydroboost type lashup. But sure don't feel like spending 700 bucks! It occured to me that mayhaps the system off of an early 80's Cad Seville deisel may be adapted. And wouldn't interfer with where the clutch cylender wound up. I'd like to know what some of you with a bit more experience on this think.

id look at that and also chevy one tons and 1/2 and 3/4 diesels have them too and i know they will leave room for a clutch master, the one ton i tore apart was a factory 350/sm465 combo and it had hydroboost
oh yea didnt nick do this from a diesel sub
i would just search the yard for anything with a hydro master

Well, some progress has been made the last couple of evenings thanks to Jose and Kevin :hi The X-member for the trans is taking shape quite nicely. Jose made a strafing run at the yard yesterday, and came up with the missing piece to bolt the mount to :!: With that, and some creative cutting and welding on the original X-member, the boys think it'a a go :thu2: Thanks to David for digging around in his spare pile to see what he had :D I got the overflow tank back on, the starter in, and finally put a choke cable on  All the big parts for the shackle reverse and SOA are here and checked, plus the R&P for the front. Tires should be here next week. He went with Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ in 35/1250x15. Near as I can tell, the only big item to work on is shocks, and I think they'll be Fox...Will try to get more pix up in the next day or so.

The stock booster will be fine with discs. You may or may not need to change the master cylinder, it depends on the calipers you use. There are many other masters that will bolt to the booster. Get the braking system put together and try it before you start changing masters or boosters. How it works will tell you what you need to change.

Progress, huh :?: Okay, let me see if I can come out of the wiring induced annoyance I am currently enjoying long enough to become coherent :curse: ....The crew got the x-member for the trans welded up, and I got it bolted in the other day. Looks like it came that way :!: I am going to replace the bolts, etc. with some better stuff, tho. We used what was in the pile, and I'd feel better with new parts. Jose got the driveshaft cut down last night, but now we get to buy new u-joints. Lost some of the rear bearing cups, and the ones off the front shaft won't work :quoi Nick and I also spent the afternoon on starting the beast. No go. Got juice, just not where we need it :uns: Ah, well. Back at it tomorrow...

Ben, the hydroboost idea got vetoed by Steve. No big, as it was just a notion I had. I think the plan that he and Jose have is to put a master from a mid '70's Vette in place of the stock one. Got a hunch that will clamp things down just fine

Dave, I wouldn't waist the money on new u-joints since the trunions are toast, and we're tossing that driveline after the lift. We could find some used caps somewhere.

Thinking of it Steve brought home a waggy driveline a while ago . . .
Did you try those yet?

Nope, they don't fit. Got new ones....Okay, the fun stuff. IT"S ALIVE :thu2: :yahoo  After deciding I am an idiot (no comment, Steve or Jose :!: ) I got the driveshaft in. Eek and Geek showed up just as I was finishing. So, we looked at the "it ain't startin'" issue. Jose jumped it, and it lit like a new car :!: Now just got to figure out what wire needs to be moved/used/whatever. The good news is, Steve should be able to drive it this week so he can work bugs out of all the combined changes :thu2: Stay tuned...
