The New Ride

Picked up a WJ friday, 84k miles and completely stock. 4.7L quadradrive.
My goal is to keep it a comfortable daily driver first, and wheeler second.
It got 19 mpgs on the way home from Spokane and crawled some of my local spots pretty easy so I feel it is going to be a good rig for me.
I have most plans for it already in progress or at least researched.
But I can't decide on lift. I'm stuck between an OME 3" where i could run 32's. Or spending the money to go 4.5 inch long arm lift. I would have to also pay to have it put on since I don't have the equipment or the skill to do a long arm lift. I could do the 3" in my shop though.
right now I'm leaning towards the 3" but I was wondering if there was any input on long arm lifts? Are they worth the almost 2 grand price tag? and how much would a shop charge to put one on?
Hoping to start going on some runs within a month or two!

if you have the money put the 4.5 longarm kit on now that way you arent putting the long arm after you already put money out on another lift before

It really depends on your
long term goals for the rig... If it's truly going to stay a daily driver first and wheeler second, the 3" OME and 32's seems like the perfect pacakge. You'll be pretty amazed where that setup will take you, and frankly, if you have to drive it to work again on Monday, it will probably take you a lot of places you don't really need to be going anyways

On the flip side, if you envision making a more "hardcore" wagon out of it someday, as mentioned above you might as well do it once and be done with it.

Yah, it would be a quite some time before I turn it in to a wheeler only rig since I still have four years of college left, but does anyone have recommendations for a shop around tri cities that put long arm lifts on? That way I could get some quotes before any decisions are made
Iron Rock Offroad makes a 4 inch long arm bolt on system that is a front only long arm suspension that is also one of my options, that would save me the money of paying for installation, it's also cheaper than most other long arm lifts. Most reviews are good for it so as of now I'm leaning towards that, then I can always upgrade the rear later

Doesn't the 4.7 have some issue around 100k? I know my bother has one and he just lost something in it, can't remember exactly but required head removal.
other than the above, I really like the WJs, drive nice, and very comfy.

It has an oiling issue. Oil ports in the crankshaft get clogged at it spins rod bearings.
Breaks exhaust manifold studs
blows head gaskets
burns through water pumps
burns through PS pumps
Hydraulic fan. . .good/bad
Factory radiators delaminate
Factory AC condensers suck
Entire factory climate control system sucks
Brake rotors warp
window regulators break constantly at >$100/each
and I'm sure I could go on.
Still the prettiest body ever put on a Jeep.

I'll get on that picture!
and i have noticed that the rotors are warped a little, feels like I'm pumping when i use them, but only at a certain pressure, I don't notice it at very light or very hard, i was planning on replacing them when i do the lift.
as far as the 4.7 i read to stay away from from 2 years i think and mine wasn't one of them. So hopefully i stay away from those troubles.
Any routine maintenance or non-routine to prevent some of those issues?
But the A/C blows cold and the windows work great as of now! That's a plus i guess

I would have to agree.

I think I have decided on the lift, gonna go with a 3" from Iron rock off road with Bilsteins. Keep it mild and very road worthy.
Went in to get quotes today for tires and was really shocked at prices, gonna end up paying double the lift price just for the tires!
does anyone know of a place online or in town that has good deals on BFG's?

I think I'm going to go with bfg all terrains and both tire zone and tire rack are about $400 cheaper than the shops in town.
Les schwab wanted to charge me $1400 for a set of 5 265/70 r17!

just called Discount tire and they were cheaper than online by a little bit, out the door mounted and balanced they beat les schwab and steves tire factory by over $500!

I tried posting earlier, but I guess it didn't work. The next set of tires I get are going to come from treadwright.com Unless I find another sweet deal on craigslist

treadwright.com looks like they have some good deals, and discount was cheaper than ntwonline.com. but discount will match online prices plus shipping as well so if they were cheaper then I could just call discount and they would give me that price
oh and lift kit has been ordered and should be on soon hopefully

does anyone know where I can get factory paint for an 01? Auto zone, o Reilly, etc. only go back to 02 and they dont carry Sienna tint pearl like i need. Duplicolor online doesn't have it either. Will I just need to go to a dealer?

This is one of those times where the dealer is a good option. Touch up kits from the dealership are around 25 bucks. Got some for my 2001 last year for around that.

okay sounds good. Napa was gonna charge 25 too for a can of paint match but they would mix it to match. I'm just going to do the center caps of the rubicon wheels to match, then have the "jeep" to match the same color I'm painting the rims.
Also does anyone have experience using Duplicolor wheel coating, I'm getting my wheels prepped now but I have gotten mixed answers at all the tire shops on whether to paint before or after mounting the tires?

Not sure how good of a match you want. Most Pearls that I know about are two or three stage: cant get a good match out of a single-stage application.
Take the color code down to any auto-paint store and they can do it. Wesco or Professional Paint Supply are the first two that come to mind.

I figured you were after a touch up kit. If spray paint is what you're after Mopar brand paint in factory colors exists. Cheaper than $25 as well.
