Toby posted up a cheap Cherokee in the craigslist thread and I couldn't resist.

87 Laredo

$350 bucks

My phone was almost dead, so the flash wouldn't come on. I'll take better pictures later, cause I'm sure everyone wants to see another white Cherokee.

Story is that it overheats, so the owner hasn't driven it since may. Threw some jumper cables on the battery, and it started right up. Engine sounds pretty good too, way better than my TJ. I bought it, loaded it on the trailer and took it by my brothers house to see what we could find. Dumped about half a gallon of water in it and found two places where the hoses were leaking....

Right now, I think it's just leaking water, and with the closed radiator system, I think there's air trapped in the heads. Quite possibly a very cheap fix.

Interior is pretty nice, driver's seat has a broken bracket. Might be able to fix that easily as well.

242k, AC, Power everything, AW4, NP231, good street tires, factory front tow hooks, and factory tow package with Dana 44.

Gonna fix it up as cheaply as possible, and have it replace my brothers current daily driver. I think it might make a decent cheapo starter wheeler for him as well.

Good buy. Hopefully it will be easy to make it reliable again. If not you can definitely part it out and recoup your money. The D44 alone will get you close to breaking even.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Parting it out could have made some decent cash.

Forgot about pictures, I was distracted fixing things.

Water pump was leaking from the weep hole in addition to leaking hoses. Got a new one and replaced it, new thermostat, & new lower radiator hose. The old hose was held together by what looked like 3 full tubes of silicone.

No more overheating. Took out the driver seat and welded the brackets back on. It was broken in 3 places, and the people I bought it from were tiny so I don't know what happened there.

Runs, drives, and with no problems. Decent power for an older engine, and the 4WD works great. I was amazed at what I could crawl up with stock tires.

Gonna drive it to work tomorrow and work out a few of the little bugs. Now I need to get one of these for myself.

I looked at a 91 in Quincy in similar condition, it's only problem was a leaking radiator, and worn out tires. Ran well, Dana 35 though and I couldn't get them to budge on their price of 500. The owner was asleep and his wife didn't want to wake him to haggle. It's still up on craigslist.

You might want to look there, who knows they might drop the price now.

I only passed on it cause the one in Hermiston was cheaper.

So I changed the engine oil, front and rear diff fluid, and oil pressure sending unit today. Gauge reads properly now. Discovered that the plugs, wires, cap & rotor were probably replaced just before the jeep sat, so no need to mess with any of that.

Took a closer peek at the brakes and noticed a lot of shiny parts. Looked in the glovebox and found a Les Schwab receipt for 2000 miles ago. Full four wheel brake job; rotors, calipers, pads, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders ect....

Previous owners spent a lot of money to let it sit for 6 months after it overheated.

New wheels and tires, 3" lift, and I'm not sure what else. I'll let him cover the details.
