So I actually got to measuring my Waggy axles today. They are from a '91 Grand Wagoneer (for reference), Dana 44's, driver-drop front.
The front axle measures 60.5" wms-wms.
The rear axle measures about 58.8" wms-wms.
Why the ~2" difference? I looked it up, and this is the way they were from '76-'91 in the Waggy's.
The stock Cherokee axles are 60" wms-wms. Is the notorius Cherokee 44 60"? Or was it the same width as the Waggy rear?
What was Jeep thinkin'?!?

100% agree.
Also, understeer thing isn't really an issue with a locked rear end.
