Spare Tire Strap Rack

While this is hardly a new idea, the way I did it brings the price point down to some version of reality that is commensurate with what these things really are, and that is a couple of ratchet straps and some scrap iron. No triple digit "Overlander Cool Kid" tax for me

Starting with some 2x6 box tube that had been in the scrap bin for way too long, I carved it up a bit to follow the contour of something like a 30-35" range tire:

With that done, and again diving into the scrap bin, I cut up some old U-bolts for ratchet strap hooks, and then applied hot glue:

Although with some very simple modifications these "platforms" can be adapted to carry just about anything, my immediate needs were to carry an 11lb propane cylinder for my ammo can firepit, and a shovel for snow recovery and general tom foolery. A couple of quick cuts/welds/holes later and we have what we need:

I then mocked this up on the 30x9.5 spare on the LJ, which also happens to be the same size as the tires on my squaredrop trailer, and the 33x11.0 spare on the Bronco:

Works as intended :thu:
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
