09 JKUR

This is kind of a re-introduction to the Jeep formerly known as Trail Cow. I was looking back at Toby's original build and it has been through many iterations since I adopted it. It's affectionately known as Balloon Animal in our house now.

The most recent project started innocently enough. The parking brake wasn't working and there was an annoying chirping squeak on cold mornings. Once it was on the lift and the brakes disassembled, I found that there was a more concerning clatter coming from the rear locker. The long term plan had been to upgrade to a D60 at some point to handle the COVID LS swap, but I couldn't wrap my head around the price and that it would still have semi-float axles. So, back to the interweb to do more research.

What I settled on was a Teraflex locking hub and full float axle conversion kit. This may seem a little backwards given the V8 swap. But... I have bent an axle flange and twisted splines with the 6 cyl. My thought is that the R&P will benefit from the stability of the full float axle We'll see.

All in with wheels and everything I am still ahead of where I would be if I bought a bolt in D60. Next is to gather up all of the take off parts and see what I can recoup back into the budget.

So far I am impressed with the kit. Other than the custom Teraflex parts (spindles, etc.), it's all off the shelf Spicer stuff you can get at any NAPA.
