Andy said, "Let there be brakes"

and there were

and it was good.

Used the bleed on your own method and was impressed how well that worked.

Going to shorten the driveshaft but that should work.

Found that of the two sets of springs, the GOOD pair was a lifted spring and the BAD one was OK but ended up buying new 6-packs only to find out you can't run a 6-pack in the setup I have! so I pulled two leaves and I think I'm good to go.

Haven't started to fool with power steering. I can turn it find parked so I'm good for now. but that's next on the agenda. I just need to drive it before I can justify spending more $$$ on it.

Thanks AGAIN!

Don't worry, your springs should flex just fine after a few dozen hard runs :P

If bump steer is an issue, you may want a pitman arm with a bit more drop if you can fit it. Also consider a support bracket for the power steering box.

First true road test complete.

With Lud as my passenger the Zuk seemed to ride and maneuver well. Top speed is about 50 MPH however it gets there quick. Speedo is amazingly accurate. Under hard acceleration it seems to "bounce" a bit. The centerforce clutch really grabs and pulls the nose up, I'm guessing I have some axle wrap issues to deal with.

Next step with be to take a few off-road trips to see how it handles and continue the tweaking.

At the end of the road test, as with anyone riding in a Sammy with me, Lud was laughing like a little school girl! It always amazes me how much fun 63HP can be!

wanna help me build a track bar first? The wife might enjoying the bouncing up and down but I don't think the Zuk and I will.

I'm out of town the 6th. Might be up for a day trip on the 13th but need to be home on the 14th, Pick Up A Mountain is the weekend of the 20th.....

God I'm busy for not really having a job.

You need a trac bar already? Usually that isn't needed on new springs right away... sheesh.. I have a ready made bar already, just need bushings for it... 8)

We'll be up there from the 12th to the 21st so anytime in there is groovy.

Went on a shake down run today at Green Island. Scotty came along to yank me out after I get Stuck. We left Pasco around 10:00a with a plan to be gone 2-4 hrs.

By 11:00 Scotty got stuck and I attempted (successfully) to get him unstuck. However in the process I got stuck. Scotty got stuck again trying to get over to me to get me free. We got him free, hooked up to the Sammy and .... yup you guessed it, stuck again. We already had a few people lined up to help and Even finally came out during his lunch break to provide assistance. I suggested we cut our losses, have Even take us into town to get Rob's Jeep and winch but Even thought he'd be able to get Scotty free. Before getting to the area we were at Even's Yota was making less and less progress. We held him up before he dug in and were able to push him out.

Even took us into Paso and Rob and I scurried to get everything we might need. By the time we got back Scotty's neighbor with the big Silver Jeep came out and had both vehicles free.

Shake down run was still successful. Found out there's a reason for battery tie downs and connector cover. The positive terminal must have hit the hood and KILLED my battery.

Also, found out that my rim is bent. Oh well, better to find out sooner than later.

Over all I'm really happy with the project as is. It seems to have the power it needs. Drives relatively well concidering it's purpose.

You nave a bent alloy wheel? Thats unusual... I should have a set of white spokes if you want them.. I know I have some wheels I'll have to look at the 'rents to see what I have. I have a spare 33 for ya too.

You had dibs before he did... I'll probably put them up for sale after sept. I started on the anti coning rings last night and I'm fixing a few leaks I had. They'll be cherry when I pull them off with a SICK paint job on the rings... :D

Yeah, but I gave up my dibs when he offered me other parts I needed to get my baby rolling. If he doesn't take 'em, consider 'em sold.

Finally got out to the Rocks (Funny/Moon) and got some testing done on things other than street/mud. I know/assume that my wheelbase and axle wrap are an issue but was impressed with the Zuk's performance. Other than just about EVERYTHING leaking, I have a clutch issue. Powerwise I'm impressed what the 63 squirrels can do. My question for the night is wheelbase. Currently I'm at 81 inches which has got to be close to stock and from what I've heard the same as a willies. A buddy back in VA that build his rig said that he calculated 106 inches and the magic all around number. I don't think I can go from 81 to 106 with my budget. I know I'm 12 inches shorter from a TJ and XJ springs "could" give me 4". I think 106" would make it a chore in the WA hills where it's too tight for just about anything. However, with the mountains and hill around here. What can be done to manage them w/o worrying about cartwheeling into the bottom of the hill.

106 is a good length but if I was building what you are I'd shoot for anything over 100''. It can be done easily and within your budget.

I have YJs but it didn't extend the wheelbase because of how the kit I bought online bolts up.
