GTFO Camping Trip 08-10Nov2024

Postby tobyw » Thu Nov 21, 2024 3:12 pm

A couple of us decided to GTFO and enjoy a weekend at elevation in the area just South of Dale, OR. We arrived late in the afternoon on Friday under sunny skies and eerily calm winds, found a suitable camp spot, and enjoyed the evening around the campfire watching a beautiful sunset:

Saturday morning was brisk but not bitterly cold, and after some eggs we hopped in the steeds and made our way to a nearby fire lookout tower:

The views from the tower were epic, with the tamarack show still in full bloom in the valley below:

From there we headed a little further East and eventually pulled into Olive Lake, which was surprisingly not closed for the season:

We installed sammiches at the lake, but with the early afternoon wind starting to kick up we did so quickly and then made our way down in elevation to explore an hold homestead we had found a couple years back. It was neat to see it again and try to process the changes in overall condition based on what we remembered it being like last time:

With darkness rapidly approaching we beat feet back to camp for another round of campfire shennanigans. On this night, with the moon periodically covered by passing clouds, we heard the wolves howling in the distance... THAT was awesome. We awoke Sunday morning to a light drizzle that persisted right up the second we pulled out of camp, at which time the sun came out  Regardless, we'd had a great weekend and most assuredly hope to have many more like it :thu:
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
