BLM re-opened Juniper Dunes on August 29. However, you must adhere to the following rules.
Off-road travel on roadways other than those that are defined as developed is permitted provided users adhere to the following: Users must carry a shovel at least 26 inches in length with at least an eight-inch blade, and either a one-gallon container of water or a fully charged 2.5 pound fire extinguisher. All motorcycles and All-Terrain Vehicles must be equipped with a properly functioning U.S. Forest Service approved spark arrestor.

Good thing these are standard carry along stuff.
But bringing up rules:
http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreat ... -20338.pdf
sheet 4:
(a) states you must wear a helmet unless the rig is street licensed.
(d) states you must have a flag on Peterson road (or any road) unless a street rig.
Exemption: working officials.
when we were airing up the sheriff stopped and asked if we were OK. Nice but noticed he had no helmet and was driving a SxS down Peterson rd.
So with the above: an ORV can be driven down Peterson road now? and shouldn't the sheriff be following the same rules or are they using the exempt to get round wearing a helmet? and drive the SxS back out to the fire station?
