The "JAFO's Back, Baby!!" Run 10-26-2014

Postby tobyw » Mon Oct 27, 2014 9:28 am

As with many, many trips prior, this one started out on a wet and windy fall morning as the crowd gathered at the predetermined launch point (which happened to be my driveway this time). Stories of the prior evenings events were regaled, as had been Homecoming for some of the elder minions, coffee was topped off, and burritos were applied to manifolds. Shortly after 0700 we bailed into our respective outfits and headed West. The list of attendees looked something like this:

OG and Maverick the Jeeping Dawg

JAFO and his youngest daughter, the Hanahnator

Boyscout riding solo (but wait, he wasn’t really solo… more later)

And there was me with the ever present boy minion, G-man

So we were off like a herd of turtles, battling a stiff head wind until about Prosser. We rolled along at about 60-65mph, letting Boyscout set the pace with his 4 angry squirrels scampering away on the power wheel under hood. We topped off with fuel and coffee in Naches, and ran into Merrick Graves doing the same. From there we headed West on Hwy 410, taking a hard right onto FS-1701. A couple miles in, we stopped to air down:

The plan was simple: find a new route to the back side of the Funny/Moon Rocks area, drop from there over to the String trails, up Quartz Mountain, and then bomb down FS-31 into Ellensburg for a slushy. Well… After several attempts, we finally achieved the first of our goals, but the rest of the trip was planned on the fly. Overall, it couldn’t have turned out much better. We ended up running some trails we hadn’t been on in years, and found a few we hadn’t ever traversed at all. Best of all, it was just a beautiful day to be in the woods:

That is eggzactly how I remembered it. I had a blast in the new rig, and being open/open, it suprised the crap outta me. Even without all the buttons and drive reduction it IS "Trail Rated" I wasn't going to go knowing how the conditions were from the overnight weather, but what the hey, lets try it. Yes, I still need some more upgrades and yes BFG'S are awesome and took me everywhere I wanted to go. All in all hanna and I had a blast. Lets do it again. Jafo

Why did this get moved? It happened less than a week ago?

Thread was moved as a decision was made in an earlier meeting to keep called runs and other runs in separate locations. Largely to keep better track of candidate runs.

No disrespect was intended, we were just a bit lazy and didn't fully implement the decision. There is now a separate section that makes more sense for other runs than the past run reports area.
