Cheese Dust 8-23-2020

Postby tobyw » Mon Aug 24, 2020 8:49 am

I believe the technical term is cheetle, but however you want to say it, the cheese was dusty! We launched from my driveway around 0745 on Sunday morning, with a total of (4) rigs in the group. I had the flatty and my boy's freshly lifted XJ on the flatbed, and was followed by OG in a recently detailed Ginger (sorry about the mess...), and newbies Kevin and Earlein in their new-to-them JKR:

After dropping the trailer and tow pig at the base of NF-1701, we cruised the rest of way to NF-1708 in the Jeeps and stopped to air down at the Milk Creek sno-park:

Not even 500 yards into the gravel heading up NF-1708, we were eating significant dust so we donned some PPE:

Taking what we used to know as Lower Woodpecker led to a couple of wrong turns and dead ends, and as it turns out, the main route has apparently been re-named to Milk Lake Trail? Not sure when that happened, but it did, and it eventually let out at the base of the 5-fingers:

Rather than take the loose and dusty hill, we took Upper Woodpecker (if it's still called that???) and hit the intersection with 4W-307 at the top of the ridge:

We trundled along the ridgeline and slipped into the Moon Rocks for some flex testing and general tom foolery:

It was nearing lunch, so we headed over to Funny Rocks to find some shade and pull out the coolers for a quick bite. OG gave Ginger a shot at several lines and was victorious on all fronts. It was great to have a show with our meal:

From there we continued East along the spine of the ridge, and stopped at the Manastash Lake overlook and took in the views:

The ridge trail eventually ties into Bald Mountain road, which we bombed down and loaded back onto the awaiting trailer we had left several hours earlier. Although the dust had been thick and at times choking talcum powdery, overall the day had been fantastic. :thu:
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
