We intended to find the mythical "gap" trail between Ahtanum/Rim Rock and FS-1302... What we found was, well, let's just say you can't get there from here, and now we know for sure. But it turns out you can run from the North Fork to Louie Way Gap and back to the Nasty Creek Corrals in a hot second

Well... having been on the FS-1302 side and at Louie Way Gap many many times, and seeing tracks toward each other, it did make sense as a viable thing. And, when you look at the map of the area, there is a line connecting them that appears to look just like any number of other trails in the area... However, trust me when I say this, it is not a thing
The arrow on the map indicates approximately where we got stopped by the uber sketchy sidehill, and after walking about 50 yards further it turns to a horse trail. The red circled area is the mythical gap trail, which turns out to be this horse trail, if even that exists. It clearly had not been travelled in a long while, and I have no idea what the other side looks like, so sometime soon I'd like to come at it from FS-1302 and see what it looks like coming the other way...
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

Thank you so much for this post.
I don't Text (at least not very well), I eat Blackberrys, and I only Twitter after sex...

Gaia GPS forest service map shows 1302 going completely through that red circle on your map and extending all the way to Jumpoff 2 Lookout. Directly to the right of your red arrow, there is a small trail that heads North straight up to the same lookout.

Yep. Gaia is what Jimmy was looking at, I had the old school paper map. Again, they both/all show the mythical trail through the area, but it does not exist in real life. At least not for Jeeps.
This picture shows that lookout structure, taken from FS-1302, way back in December of 2011:
I was up there in our spiffy new JKU-R, way before wheeling JKU-R's was a thing
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
