Due to prior commitments we weren't able to tag along on the actual Peak Putters run the day before, so a handful of us made a quick day trip on Father's Day proper. We left around 0730 under sunny skies with blustery winds, and as much as I'm trying to change my ways, I had a trailer in tow
In the group were myself with a full dollop of family plus my son's "friend" (who happens to be a very nice and cute 15yo female ), Danny running solo in Kermit, and Chris with his daughter in his JT-R. OG was already up camping so the loose plan was to blast up, find a place to dump my trailer, and then find Jimmy.
We dumped the trailer at the base of FS-1701 and made our way to FS-1708, and soon enough found ourselves at the bottom of the shortcut, and we stopped to air down:
Everyone made quick work of the ascent, but poor Glady's scraped her belly pretty good coming out of the trees and breaking over back onto FS-1708. She's a long and low porker at this point... Anyhow, we made our way to Milk Lake and found Mr./Mrs. OG with a tidy little camp setup there:
After a quick bull session, we took a brief detour to czek out the view before heading back onto FS-1708:
The group trundled along FS-1708, eventually making it to the 5-fingers and then up to the ridge en route to the rocks. We stopped for another photo op:
Arriving at Funny Rocks, we found a handful of RZR type contraptions and much to our surprise, all of the folks were very calm and pleasant to share space with. This is very unlike the vast majority of interaction we've had with the RZR crowd(s), so it was indeed a breathe of fresh air. Culinary weaponry was deployed, things were cooked and consumed, and soon enough we packed up and headed out:
My boy tried his hand at the bunny slope as we left Funny Rocks and did an admirable job, but I didn't catch any photos because I was spotting...
After a quick trip to Moon Rocks for a photo op, Mr. and Mrs. OG peeled and headed back down to Milk Lake to retrieve their camper. The rest of the group did some tinkering at Moon Rocks and then headed South out the back side of Moon Rocks toward FS-1701:
As it was still relatively early in the afternoon, and not really wanting to run a huge stretch of gravel road just yet, we hopped onto 590 and then took the left turn downhill onto 675, which leads to FS-1702. This short section of trail is simply stunning in terms of the views you get of Adams and Rainier, and it's just a fun little jaunt to poke through:
We dropped all the day way down FS-1702 back to highway 410, took a left and made the quick jump over to FS-1701 to recover the trailer, load up, and air up. Now, I'm not a huge tech guy but I have to admit, the tire fill assist application on the U-Connect system in the Gladiator is awfully handy. You simply punch in the desired air pressure you want to get up to, and when your compressor gets it there, the horn honks. Mind blown
Overall another great day in the hills. Somewhat dusty at times but the weather was impeccable and there was no trail traffic. Gladys is solidifying her role as a true dual purpose machine, towing the XJ and hauling (5) people plus all of our gear without a single complaint. Can't wait for the next one
