NF-1302 12Feb2022

Postby tobyw » Sun Feb 13, 2022 6:30 am

Our group met up at the West Richland Maverik at 0700 under a beautiful, brisk sunrise. In attendance were a full dollop of Wilcox including Louie the Wunder Mutt, with the boy minion also hosting his buddies Josh and Braydon in his XJ; Kevin and Earline were in their green 2-door JK-R with their pup Bodie; Chris and Jenn brought their black JKU-R and her son Eli swapped between their Jeep and Gavin's XJ throughout the day; and last but not least was Boyscout with Blue. Sadly, Blue spring a massive coolant leak right there at the fuel pump, so Boyscout promptly ran back home to assess the situation and ended up trailering Blue instead:

It was a truly amazing morning for a drive:

Arriving at the staging area, we offloaded and aired down. Just for some entertainment, Boyscout decided it best to get his tow pig stuck, so a quick recovery was in order. The day was starting off right!!

NF-1302 takes off from the pavement and immediately climbs. You gain most of the elevation for the day right out of the parking lot, and we encountered snow and ice most of the way up. It was easy to tell how the sun tracks throughout the day though, as some spots were completely bare:

Up on top, we made rapid progress toward the South-West in search of some deeper snow and/or a place to eat lunch:

We, and by we I mean myself and those in my Jeep, made it to the lunch spot at around 12:30pm. The rest of the group was about 150 yards behind, but for some reason it took them another 1-1/2 hours to get there... We made a fire and cooked lunch while the rest of the group did whatever it was they were doing with shovels, recovery ropes, and winches:

With everyone unstuck and fed, we turned tail and headed back down the hill. A couple more stucks were encountered in that same pesky drift area just down the hill from where we had lunch, but the rest of the way down was smooth sailing:

We arrived back at the staging area with the sun setting pretty hard behind us, so the shadows were looooooong and the temps were dropping:

With everyone aired back up and strapped down, we headed back home. We had only seen 3 other vehicles all day, which was very refreshing compared to the over-crowed, beer fueled SxS haven that Nasty Creek seems to have become... Overall it had been a truly epic bluebird day, even if the snow conditions were a little alarming for early February 8)
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
