As per the rule book, boat race weekend is THE time to GTFO. Plans were made and after a truly unfortunate series of unrelated events, the dollop of Wilcox made a decidedly Roman-esque entrance to camp near the stroke of midnight on Thursday. OG had landed many hours prior, securing a fantastic spot that shall remain secret, but it's generally along FS-19 outside Cliffdell. I snapped a few pictures during my morning walkabout as the sun came up Friday:
We spent the majority of the morning lounging around camp with no particular agenda, and on a whim decided to have lunch at the Gold Creek Station just East of Cliffdell. If you haven't stopped in there for a meal, a piece of pie, or even just to browse the massive selection of sundries at the general store, suffice it to say you are missing out. Upon returning to camp, OG was telling tale of a wonderful camp spot he had found a few weeks prior, and a decision was made to air down and investigate. We hopped in our respective steeds, hopped onto the Naches trail, and then hopped back off at an intersection with a main gravel FS road. It was great fun:
After a quick peek at the extremely isolated camp spot, we headed back to camp for an evening of epic tacos, World Cup soccer, and frosty beverages:
Saturday morning was another lazy one, but somewhere along the way it was decided that ice cream needed to be had. Now, to be very clear, ice cream runs are exactly what the flatty is built for, so the proverbial shoe fit. Around 1030 hours we loaded up and once again hopped onto the Naches trail, this time pushing all the way through to NF-70 and eventually to the metropolis of Greenwater for the requisite ice cream. I haven't been on the Naches trail in hot minute, and it was FUN!!
After ice cream we took the fast way back to camp over Pyramid Pass and soaked in the views from the top:
Sunday morning was another slow, relaxing start with just enough time for coffee, pancakes and bacon before loading up and heading back home:
Overall it had been an epic weekend of pure relaxation and good clean fun on the trails. As it turns out, my boy has become a pretty good driver given a worn out open/open XJ on 32's, and made OG and myself question a lot of life decisions I still hate the flatty as much as ever, but the ice cream sure was delicious
