BPA - Mid Columbia Coho Restoration Project

Postby Grumpy » Fri Jul 31, 2009 3:18 pm

From time to time I received various alerts and announcements regarding "outdoor activities" that may or may not impact our form of recreation. Not until the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS); addressing an environmental review process; or a project analysis request has been researched - do we know if there will be a need to respond or not; this is one of those times.

Since public scoping meetings have been scheduled (middle of August) I felt it was important to post this announcement from the DOE and BPA as an FYI at this time.

Mid-Columbia Coho Restoration Project -

The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), through the Department of Energy, is in the process of preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that would address the re-introduction of the Coho Salmon into the Mid-Columbia Basin tributaries in Washington Chelan and Okanogan Counties. The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakima Nation is proposing to sponsor the program; BPA is proposing to provide funding; and the Yakima Nation has prepared a Master Plan to guide the project, while working with other federal, state, local agencies, landowners, and interested groups.

The public meetings will allow assessing potential environmental impacts. Do you have questions (?); what resources and recreation should be addressed; are there other alternatives that should be considered; these meetings are where you can make comments and find your answers.

Public Scoping Meeting locations and dates are as follows: (Time 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)

August 20 (Thursday) Chelan Fire District 3 Community Center
228 Chumstick Highway
Leavenworth, WA 98926

August 21 (Friday) Methow Valley Community Center
210 South Methow Valley Highway
Twisp, WA 98856

Brief presentation of the proposal will begin at 7:00 - comments will be taken and questions will be answered at this time; maps and other information about the project will be available.

Written comments will be accepted through September 15th; please refer to
