Just a Few Bad Apples: Research Shows Many Off-Roaders Break the Law
Author: Jason Kiely and Chris Kassar
Road-RIPorter Issue: Winter Solstice 2007, Volume 12 #4
December 17, 2007

Editor’s Note: Bibliography Notes typically covers the ecological effects of roads or ORVs by reviewing scientific literature. However, assumptions about social behavior also influence the debate around the management of off-road vehicle use on public lands. This edition of Bibliography Notes explores one important social science issue that has been studied by researchers.

Introduction
The ecological impacts of off-road vehicles on water, air and land have been well documented. In the past five to ten years, however, these issues have taken on social dimensions, and social scientists have begun exploring the attitudes and behaviors of off-road vehicle drivers.

Countless newspaper articles are peppered with myths perpetuated by off-roaders, such as: “elite environmentalists are locking the public out of public lands;â€

Keep an eye out for this type of language. Apparently, "More than a few bad apples" is going to be a talking point against those of us seeking responsible land access.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

So it would seem. And here we are, fractured, and not even able to agree on how to handle a simple thing like PUAM  I am starting to get more than a bit annoyed with this whole thing. Every time something comes up that needs concensus, we start bickering like a bunch of 3rd graders. A bunch of us had best decide what to do, or we will be out of the loop. Arlene Brooks stays as on top of things as she can, but that's one person. I get frustrated becuase I don't know how much inpact all the info I post is having, and if I start too much of this type comment, I'll be the bad guy trying to stir the pot. The pot NEEDS stirred. The people responsable for the above article are after our @$$es, and we d@mn well best get our act together :!: PNW can't even get along amongst themselves, so what to expect :?:
