User groups react to proposed cuts in recreation funding

Recreation user groups are speaking out in response to proposed cuts in state general fund support for recreation facilities on DNR-managed trust lands. The cuts could result in severely reduced services or closures affecting more than 50 (corrected 1/7/09) nearly two dozen more of DNR’s 148 recreation sites as early as this March. Last spring, services were cut at more than two dozen other DNR recreation sites after the DNR Recreation Program lost about half of its funding during the 2009 legislative session.
In this recent podcast posted by FishingandHunting.com, Jonathan Guzzo from the Washington Trails Association discusses the impact of cuts DNR’s recreation program is facing in 2010. Guzzo blogs about that issue also in the WTA’s The Signpost Blog.
