Hi, folks:

I just wanted to send you a quick email update to let you know that the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had just released its Draft Strategic Plan. You can download the plan at: www.dnr.wa.gov/Publications/em_dnr_draf ... 5_2010.pdf

In February, DNR will be holding seven public meetings/open houses around the state to present and discuss the Draft Strategic Plan. If you can’t make it to a meeting and want to give your input, you can fill out our online survey. More information about the meeting dates, times, locations and a link to the survey are at: www.dnr.wa.gov/BusinessPermits/Topics/O ... _plan.aspx

The recreation programs falls within goal number one of the plan.

I hope that you will take the time to look over the plan and either attend a meeting or share your thoughts in the survey.

Quote:
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is completing an effort to develop a Strategic Plan that identifies and prioritizes the agency’s activities for the next five years. During the past year, the department has experienced many challenges, causing us to look at things from a different perspective and now leading us to recognize the value of this strategic planning endeavor.

A few months ago, DNR shared draft language and requested comments from staff, partners and stakeholders. The public input gathered has been critically important to how the mission, vision and goals have evolved into a draft plan. We are seeking input and inviting comment on the draft plan.

Page 7:

The stakeholder groups tied to this natural environment are as varied
as the lands themselves, including tribes; foresters; commercial aquaculture
harvesters; farmers; mining companies; schools and communities that
receive trust revenues; hikers, bikers, skiers, and other recreation users; and
conservation groups dedicated to the preservation of natural habitat for the
many plant and animal species that live on these lands.

I don't see anything in there about us by name. Just "other recreation users". Peter Goldmark is not our friend...DW

No letters to write on this DNR Strategic Plan - your comments are recorded on the "Online Survey" - <http>.

( Goal 1 - (page 2 of 8) Major Initiative F: Develop a Sustainable Public Use/Recreation Program); it is the only place the draft addresses recreation - three points are stated:

1.) Develop suatainable funding;
2.) Establish stable partnerships with user groups for stewardship of the land;
3.) Complete landscape assessments.

What steps are critical for the successful implementation of the Major Initiative? Are any critical implementation steps missing from the Draft Plan? ###

Your participation is greatly appreciated - Thanks, Arlene
