Subject: Priorities for Backcountry Trails

What are the most important priorities for improving backcountry trail recreation over the next five years?

That’s the first set of questions the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is asking people as it looks to revise the state’s Trails Plan and Nonhighway and Off-road Vehicle Activities (NOVA) Plan. We’d like your thoughts.

You can respond by visiting our Trails Town Hall Web site at (http://watrailstownhall.wordpress.com/ ) where you can quickly share your views.

Also, please tell your friends and help us spread the word.

The Washington State Trails Plan has not been updated since 1991. The 2013 State Trails Plan will show how far we’ve come in providing trails recreation opportunities since 1991, identify new issues, and set the stage for a comprehensive trails plan in 2018.

The NOVA Program provides grants to develop and manage recreation opportunities for users of backcountry trails and non-highway roads. Grants may be used planning, capital improvements, maintenance, operation, land acquisition, education, and law enforcement on trails. The NOVA Plan guides expenditures for the program.

Your input is crucial to understanding what’s important to include in these plans.

Thanks for your help in planning for the future of trails in Washington!
