Open House - Juniper Dunes Access Project

Postby pascoscout » Thu Jul 03, 2014 6:24 pm

Franklin County along with BLM and FHWA will be holding an open house on July 31 from 6pm to 8pm at the TRAC (room #2). This is the beginning of the environmental and public comment portion of the project. There will be some formal advertisements but thought it'd be good to get the word out here since I know there are a lot of supporters in the club.

Thanks Matt! Greatly appreciated. May call you next week to discuss some ideas, unless getting ready for more medical annoyance gets in the way :?

This little gathering will be at the TRAC facility from 6-8:00PM July 31, 2014 as advertised. This is the feds! Talked to Seth English-Young, who will be there. There will be a presentation at 7:00 to get everyone up to speed on the process, and to give us an idea of the time frames involved. Got us on the e-mail and snail mail lists as well. So, guess we start marshalling the forces.

Like the other meetings on this, I think we need to show up in force with street-legal(ish) trail rigs and Putter stickers. I think our efforts are getting somewhere.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

It would seem that BLM hadn't gotten word on this till I e-mailed Steve. One would think, as an involved agency, they'd have been in on it from the get go :?

Is there something we should read/review before attending this event?

Not yet. This is the beginning of the scoping part of the program. There likely will be some info there, but I don't expect much till we start the NEPA/DEIS phase of the fun.

Sure not over publicizing this thing! Earl and Sande didn't know about it either.

Ads come out this week. They were on my list to call but I didn't get to it today.

Also sending flyers to local OHV type shops this week.

Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
I think so, why is it so easy to get a Jeep dirty, but so hard to get it clean?

Info only from them, but some of the locals got some shots in, and not in good way from one. People cutting over his property, leaving garbage, acting like the 2 percenters that keep screwing up...

Otherwise, good presentation. Matt did most of the heavy lifting, and he's quite good at it! I do think the boys from out of town need to get out and spend some time learning about the area and users if they're going be any good at running this project.

On a side note, at the moment, I'm not too impressed with Geoff Folsom from the TCH! I had e-mailed him about this meeting, and never got a response. Turns out he was there last night, and I didn't see him getting comments from anyone in our group. Yup, there may be another nastygram about to explode...

The caption under the photo is the one from a year ago when we found out about the funding....

Also article says BLM is doing the right of way which is wrong, that will be Franklin County.

Really over states what Keith said about the funding. What I am told is we are moving forward, the project is funded. Only way we lose it is if congress fails to keep highway trust fund going which is very unlikely.
