Cabela's
Picked up on NWW this morning that thes folks are supporting Trout Unlimited, who is sueing the USFS to have the Tellico OHV area back east closed to us off road types. Pretty sure that does away with any business I may have given them...Rank them right down there with REI. I sent them a note telling them I was less than impressed.

Not to cause any hate or discontent (I know that is Daves job ), but
I'm surprised to hear this about Trout Unlimited. In the past they have worked with Jeep clubs to clean up Tellico. http://www.sfwda.org/trails/tellico/cleanup20060311/index.html.
I think it is important that we do not lump all environmental groups together and certainly not the businesses that support them. REI is supporting enviro- groups that would have no motorized vehicles off road. So, REI loses my business. I do not think the same can be said for Trout Unlimited or Cabelas.
That being said, I am not familiar with the suit for closing Tellico. In the interest of full disclosure I will let you know that I am enough of a customer of Cabelas that they send me two hardbound catalogs every year. And, whereas I am not a member of TU, I am a flyfisherman, albeit not a very good one.
Off my soapbox now (and I did not trip this time.)

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Lemme go back to find that post and make sure what I'm babbling about. I'm not interested in fomenting any controversy if there is none

Lee, as I am just a bit more than tech inept, I sent two e-mails to Jose to put in this thread that may explain what's going on...

“Agency studies show that streams within the Tellico area receive 500 to 1,000 times more sediment than similar streams just outside the trail system.
This quote is a typical bullshit approach to sway the reader. It gives you no idea how much sediment is entering the streams. Maybe the streams outside of the trail system receive virtually no sediment during the non specified unit of time.
On the flip side, the Tellico Off-road films suggest that those folks really like to mud it up.
I suspect that the interested groups will find compromises similar to what has been done in the Wenatchee National forest.
I don't Text (at least not very well), I eat Blackberrys, and I only Twitter after sex...
Definately Steve's area of expertise.
from what I have seen of Tellico, the erosion is really amazing. I don't think that TU or Cabelas is trying to abolish wheeling like the Sierra Club and REI. . .they are just trying to focus in on their interest. . .fish. . .makes sense to me. I hope that they can figure out a way to work it out for everyone. The best thing that the wheelers in that neck of the woods can do is cooperate and volunteer their time to make sure everything works out.
