Commentary - Blue Mt. Planning meeting/John Day

An interesting meeting with Forest Service representatives on the Forest Plan Revision last night went an hour over the allotted time. The main topic brought forth by the public was the access issue. It is impossible to separate the access issue from Part A of the plan when all portions (including Management Areas, Land Allocation, Wilderness, et al) encompasses access restrictions. The message was loud and clear....."leave our roads and all access open". Natural road closures readily occur, emergency access needs to be maintained, and the Forest Service needs to stop their cover up and maintain honesty and transparency. Jim Sproul pointed out, after the Forest Service and Blue Mountain Forest Partners representatives openly declared that Grant County Ordinance 2013-01 was not a legal document, that our county has many ordinances (such as the building ordinance) that are laws to be followed, so why do the outsiders believe this one is not to be followed. Perhaps an educated and qualified lawyer should take a look at this issue.
It was also made obvious that the current leadership of the local forest service has no feeling, knowledge, or understanding of our County's values, history, and the human element involved in what makes us unique above all other counties. Remarks were made in a clownish attempt to belittle a family history and tradition and the public's effort to gather information. This was not a wise move and the group's displeasure was quite evident.
Perhaps the Commissioners, who are blatantly ensconced in the forest service support club or riding that gradually splintering fence, were made aware that the people they were elected to represent and have deceived are taking a closer look at their loyalties. We can only hope this is the case.
Judy Kerr, CPA and proud of it.

Another meeting on the Blue Mountain Forest Plan Revision
Re engagement. short for our forest. The meeting started at 6:00 and went past 10 Pm.. back to Baker which gave us time to process all the many things that came up in the meeting.
Jack Southworth was our facilitator and did a great job. All were allowed to talk and ask questions, and since all in all about 50 people were in the room, that was allot of talking. The process was different than any other I have attended, you were not cut off after 3 minutes. I was so proud of the people of Grant County who shared ...the love of their land, the hopes and fears and the pride of the family ties they hold near and dear to their hearts. Most of the people who shared regarding how the Forest Service communicates with us,commented via the following: Lack of Trust, no follow through, example all our comments and no response, closing roads before the plan is even in place. many stated they felt like they are lied to, FS not following their own regulations that are already in place, maps not correct, not listening when time after time we explain, request and all but plead our case. Of the 50 people four of them work for the forest service. So many things were said and said again. I do believe that they saw we are passionate about our forest and families and we will not stop until the process is completed and our concern are addressed...John Creighton
