RCO Grant Funding in Washington State

I just wanted to bring this information to the attention of the off-roading enthusiasts in Washington State - this is something all recreationists should be familiar with - not just a chosen few...
This program has been available for many years, but those in the know have a tendency to keep it to themselves to avoid competition from other groups for the same pool of funding.

THIS HAS TO STOP!

The non-motorized groups are not only heavily funding matching dollar amounts to acquire grants for their areas - they are actively teaching their members "how to apply and be successful" in getting grants.

These are the results of the latest scramble for the grant funding that is currently being distributed by the RCO (Recreation & Conservation Organization).
While categorized as 2014 (when applications needed to be submitted) - this round of funding is just now becoming available to the successful project coordinators throughout the state.

If there is a recreational area that you are interested in - this will arm you with the knowledge you will need to engage in conversations with the managing agency about how you want those dollars applied to your favorite recreation area.
Remember that if a grant has been awarded there is already a "plan" in place that should be adhered to by the agency or group that is receiving the funding.

If you do not see any grant applications for areas that you believe should be receiving funding for growth and improvement - NOW IS THE TIME TO GET INVOLVED for the next round of grant funding - applications will be due in 2016.

I believe that every project should have at least one member of the public who ensures that these dollars ACTUALLY contribute towards improving recreation and are not just wasted by the agencies.

This grant funding is generated by dollars received from OHV fuel taxes and OHV permits.

Everyone should take a minute to see where in recreation this funding is going and equally important -where it is not going.

These are links to the results of the two categories that would be of most interest to off-road recreation:
