WASHINGTON STATE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
BOARD MEETING (TELECONFERENCE)
JUNE 6th, 2018
Baker to Bellingham Recreation Plan - Two years in the making, the Baker to Bellingham Recreation
Plan that Kevin Vanderhorst – Rainer Ridge Rams worked on didn’t come out as the 4x4 community
had hoped. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) failed to accomplish the much needed change
to rezoning the Whatcom County Code – which would have allowed legal motorized recreation in the
Sumas Mountain area. The opposition was great from the local community, yet it is evident there will
still be illegal activities existing and the current residents will have to continualy deal with the activities
- land that is not suitable for motorized recreation.
Washington State Trails Coalition Conference - The Conference on October 25-27 in Wenatchee is
on schedule for those who plan a presentation or speech – the registration has been extended till the
15th of June. The theme this year is “Leading the Way” with breakout sessions addressing opportunities
for shared advocacy to managing for trails. Our association representatives are still on-board; and,
PNW material/supplies will be requested later on this Fall from our PR and Tri Power officers - used as
our tool to let the rest of the attendees on who we are and what we stand for.
Just a reminder, the new Trail Counter Request Form and the Kathy Sterner Memorial Award
clarification can be found in the SOP's on the website, thanks to Sande our Secretary and Rich Holm
the webmaster.
Trail Counter Information - the data information will be available during our teleconference call on
the 6th.
Arlene Brooks, Washington State Director

Trail Jamboree Report
June Board Meeting
Dumpster will be delivered Monday the 1st of July. They are delivering the same size dumpster as prior
years.
Port-O-Potty/Wash Station will be delivered the 1st of July. We have septic pump set of for Wednesday
July 4th and Friday July 6th. $15 per vehicle per pump day.
Entertainment – waiting to hear from Jay, but we are planning a karaoke night for Saturday and an icecream
social.
Trail Selection – Melissa has 75 people registered for their trails. After talking to Angie we decided to
cancel the Ladies Run due to lack of interest and not having a sponsor. We are also looking at cancelling
Rimrock (its only on Friday) because we don’t have anyone registered for it with a qualifying rig. Divide
on Friday is full, Kaner/Quartz on Thursday is full, Manastash on Thursday and Friday are full, Rock
Saddle is full on Saturday, & Rattlesnake has one opening on Saturday.
