BLM cancels RMP efforts

Postby Grumpy » Sat Apr 27, 2019 2:48 pm

Good afternoon,

This email is to inform you that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is terminating the Eastern Washington Resource Management Plan revision effort. BLM intends to move forward with one or more amendments to the 1987 RMP beginning in fiscal year 2020. Fiscal year 2020 begins October 1, 2019. Amendments may address land tenure, off-highway vehicle area designations, and livestock grazing allocations.

Although this is a change in direction, the BLM will continue to ensure that public lands are managed under the principles of multiple use and sustained yield and in accordance with the intent of Congress. Resource management plans are only one of the mechanisms for guiding BLM activities in order to achieve the BLM’s mission. Most of the existing Spokane RMP decisions continue to be relevant in guiding on-the-ground projects.

The BLM will continue to propose implementation-level decisions under the current RMP and conduct analysis prior to approving on-the-ground projects. The BLM will make these decisions after considering BLM policy and regulatory requirements, scientific information, public and tribal concerns and interests, and identifying any project-specific conservation measures.

If you have questions, please respond to this email or call Katherine Farrell at (509) 536-1252.
