The JKs look happy in the woods. 8)
Hope the mobile accommodations worked well on their maiden voyages.

I broke a strap before we reached Prosser and had to tie back down. After that is was smooth sailing. Need to add some D-rings to my trailer. Drove all the way back with only 2 straps. Very sketchy!

Rimrock Part Duex (or Tre...)

Friday 8/30/2013

So the plan was to be rolling by about 6 pm, then it was looking more like 7 pm...

But then Mike (Yrjan) says he's ready at Yokes at 6:30, great I'm thinking to myself, I'm still doing chores (lawn), so I finish up and we meet at Walmart around 8 pm. An early start to a great adventure...

So I fuel up and we decide to add some air to our trailer tires as the Jeeps seem to squat the puny tires alot, check out straps and finally we're rolling about 9 pm...

We get just past Yakitat to tighten up straps, and realized Mike's straps were too tight and tearing, so we decided to check the truck stop in Prosser for more straps, it's not 10 ish. We get all the straps squared away and finally we're rolling to a wonderful time at our former Peak Putters campsite in Rimrock. We arrived about Midnight, and quickly, but not very quietly went about setting up camp, probably not pleasing the two other rigs already there and apparently bedded down. After set-up a couple of beverages we hit the rack about 1:30 am.

Saturday 8/31/2013

We awoke early, like 9 ish LOL... Motorhomes are much more comfortable than tents, so we enjoyed a little extra snoozing. Had breakfast got the JKs ready for the day ahead, finally pulling out of camp at nearly noon. My idea was to run up to 1202 and find all the cool trails Ed had shared with us the weekend before, unfortunately we couldn't find any of them, so as I stare at the map I see 4W608 - Louie Way Jeep Trail... A light shines down from heaven and we're off. AS you can see by the video it was a fun trail presenting plenty of obstacles and challenges that we conquered swelling with Jeep pride! NWJeepn, com rates the trail as Most Difficult, and gives about 2 hours to finish it, but we took a more relaxing pace completing it in like 3 hours, then we looked for the trail that would bring us to the back side of Lost Lake, to no avail, and ended up taking the fire road in having lunch around 4 pm and then decided to head back to get a much earlier start on Sunday as the Cunningham's were heading home that night. Many beverages and dinner were enjoyed, then we turned in about 11ish...

Sunday 9/01/2013

We were up and rolling by about 9:30 am (we're getting better at this), and headed up 1203 to Pickle Prairie, PP Loop, & PP North Trails 4W609, 4W609A, & 4W611...

These trails were a ton more fun and challenging the the previous days, and took us all day to complete, due mainly to kicking the videographers (Mandi & Iulia out to Film), then trading places and trying to film and spot them through obstacles. Needless to say the videos Mike and I took will look pretty bad compared to the Lady's vids. It was a great full day of fun wheeling, Mike got his first trail tattoo, and killed another valve stem, so we had another tire changing episode, and we met up with a couple of other rigs out for the weekend. Upon finishing we again saw the other rigs camped along the side of the 1202 and pulled in to chat... I had a plan brewing (since Mike & Iulia were heading home, I was looking for back up for the next day and got it).

So we blaze a trail back to camp get the Cunninghams loaded and off to home, and Ms Mandi says, do we have enough time to run up to that lookout we saw (Jump Off Lookout)? I think well yeah it's only 5:30 pm, and it's like 14 miles or so, sure we have time...

So Mandi, Syler and I head out for Jump Off Lookout up the 1302 that we had run a snow run on, and I had recently rode up there myself. Piece of cake! About 7 miles in we come across a young Military guy camping in his 2002 Dodge pick-up in the middle of the road...

I ask him if he always camps in the road, and he replies to take a look at his front right wheel and I'll understand what the deal was. So I pull up get out and think HOLY $%#@ his right front wheel was taking a dirt nap layed over on it's side, the rest of the truck wanted to continue but the wheel (rather the upper balljoint broke away, pulling the CV joint, and shearing his brakeline), was having no part of it. The poor guy was waiting until tomorrow (Monday) to get a tw truck up there to get him out. I wrestled with how I could get my trailer up to him and at least get him back to pavement so Insurance would cover him, but had no feasible answers. He said he was up there to hunt so he'd be fine, so we continued on to the lookout.

Arriving at the lookout at dusk, we took a few pictures, stared thru binoculars trying to catch a glimpse of any fires that had the area shutdown, but found only hazy smoke lingering. After some pics we loaded up and headed home (camp). We arrived back at camp about 9:30pm in the dark and went about fixing a meal of kings Filet Mignon, and a tasty salad, while I worked on my laptop clearing our cameras of pics and vids to be ready for a Monday assault on Pucker Ridge! We hit the sack about 11ish and set an alarm to make sure we got an early start.

Monday 9/02/2013

Up at 7;30 out the door by 9, met up with Kris Froehlich from Lynden, WA and after checking with the Ranger, we were unofficially cleared to run up 1203 and across the 550 to catch the 538 and finally 4W601 Pucker Ridge!

We took the first entry, apparently trying this trail on backwards, as we would soon find out why it was supposed to be run from the otherside. About a mile in (guestimate) I was leading and tore my only front upper control arm off causing my axle to wrap and my front driveshaft yoke to first puke an ear, then the u-joint before the shaft sat dangling with me headed uphill in loose shale rock on a 60% plus incline and nowhere to go...

First we tried securing my now very rotational front axle with little orange ratchet straps, no good, after a couple of attempts to move and turn around my coil springs looked like a slinky, first oneway then the next, a whole bunch of dash lights came on too...

We decided to use BOTH of my winches to secure my axle and attempted to get me turned around as after a few phone calls we were told we would not get any further in our chosen direction, especially with me a limping 2wd rig. It took us a good hour or better to get turned around, only to now find I can't exit the Jeep. It seems on such an incline in Park, E-Brake jacked my JK still wants to move forward over what I couldn't see ( a 3 foot drop off that might have sent me rolling down canyon...

Somehow (watch the video) Kris got up behind me to give a tug now and again and over what seemed like an eternity, probably 2-3 hours), we nursed my rig back to the fire road 538. All the while I'm sending Hail Mary texts looking for help. Mike was actually half way back to Rimrock to help, when I text him saying " STOP! We made it to the fire road!"

We then nursed Julia back to camp some 6.5 miles away, up onto the trailer, strapped her down and made a beeline home. First stop Prosser to dump out black & grey tanks, then Bryan's to drop my JK off, then home arriving home about 8:30pm. Then looking at the weather, I had to run back over to Bryan's and put my top on as it poured rain...

All in all the best trip ever, sure I broke the Jeep, but it was still an awesome trip. Although I had no idea how badly I'd stressed up on that hill, I was sick the next day, too sick to go to work, so I stayed home.

Bryan came through and got Julia back together Tuesday evening, I'm now only waiting on a new slip yoke and u-joint being shipped from Coast Drivelines direct, at no charge...

If I missed anything, I'm sure it will be in the pics and/vids to follow, or Mike can chime in...

Bottom Line - You should've been there, it was great!

Special thanks to Paul (Wrench) for getting our new (to us) motorhome outfitted, and of course Bryan for pre and post mechanical works!!!!

your lift made the jeep a 3 link or did you decide just to run one upper control arm?

That's why we did our best to not create more damage by side lining where we could... Plus, who wants to clean gobs of mud of their rig...
