Peak Putters -Aardvark Assault When Funny Rocks Attack 11/14
Peak Putters -Aardvark Assault When Funny Rocks Attack 11/14
This trip started out like many before; the group met up for the caravan road trip and manifold breakfast burritos were put on the oven, err, manifold. In Tri-Cities terms, it was pouring rain, and the anticipation of what Elephant Dung and Aardvark Hill were going to be like was almost unbearable. As it turns out, those wouldn’t be the most exciting portions of the day, but we’ll get to that in a bit…
After a couple of brief stops for coffee and fuel along the way, we made it up to “Camp Aardvarkâ€

Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
This report, added to the many others, confirms that 'ole Orville is the best bang-for-the-buck wheeling rig I have ever seen.
The old boy has one more epic adventure left in him. . .stay tuned.
Nice report Toby. It was almost like I was there.
Thanks to the group for an awesome time. Here's my quick .02:
Elephant Dung was a giant red furry MONSTER. It is pretty incredible that 6 out of 7 of us made it cleanly. We saw whole groups that were flat out denied on this same day.
Aardvark was a pussycat, relatively speaking.
617 downhill from Lily was interesting because of the hunter and the super slippery mud. It was difficult to even stand. . .
Upper Woodpecker may be one of my favorite parts of the day.
Funny Rocks: My pride and my right foot got the better of me. I simply ran out of talent. The rocks were slick, the Jeeps stumbled, I was going to spill my coffee, the dog ate my homework. . .Nope. . .simply screwed up. Since we couldn't safely get out, I had to chat with my son, who, if you know him, was giving me a solid and well deserved ribbing. But, for the sake of setting a good example for the boy, I HAD TO clean that exact same line just as soon as we got everything cleaned up and the Jeep started. Success is the simple act of getting up one more time than you fall down.
Now, I was SUPER impressed with David's buddy (Andrew's) XJ and his newly developed skill. Very nicely done sir. VERY. Likewise, the burnt Orange Rubi and its driver (forgot name) was equally awesome. . .but for slightly more cashish. . .
We got the whole team to Lily Pond at Noon, all the way back down to Squaw Rock by 5PM, and we had Don pointed home after a quick recover by 6:30. . .and we were never in a hurry. Simply fantastic.
What a day.. .what a YEAR. . .so far. . .heh. . .

Nice report Toby. It was an awesome day of wheeling. My buddy Andrew did very well for his first real Jeep run... I think he had a fun time. When Don got hung up on the roots on Elephant Dung I told Andrew to keep his mometum up to get past those roots.. well I should have listened to my own advice because I got hung up the roots and he flew right up without hesitation! Andrew and I are currently on a plane heading for New York for work... Naches wheeling one day and New York the next! I've got some pics I'll try to post up later.
We had an AWESOME trip, the day run with the club members and guests. It was quite an event filled day, Lance and I rode clean-up for the day and found plenty of opportunities to assist others. First we had to pull a hunter back up on the rode after he slid his nose off and couldn't get back up on his slicks, next Lance had to go to work (Medic style after Jimmy watched the hunter eject and get rolled over, and finally we gave Jimmy a tug to get him back on plane after getting tipsy at Funny Rocks.
Neither of us remember sliding backwards on Aardvark, although we definitely slid sideways just before it...
After heading back to camp for a quick dinner Irish (Mike) and Lance decided it would be fun to see Raven's roost at night, with yours truly at the helm, we got back to camp around 10:30 and called it a night, i think Lance has some video of our night run coming. after our extra hour of sleep this morning we ran back up to the Roost via the MC trail, with a nice 4+ inches of snow, but I'll defer to Lance's story telling to fill you in on that.
I'm sharing raw videos I shot with my iPhone, of Elephant Dung Hill, and a couple of others of the guys at Funny Rocks, it was pretty slickery, so I didn't get out as often to take video fearing somebody catch me wrong side up/down on camera... Pics will follow shortly.

Nice videos Dave, was hoping there might have been one of Ms Mandi & I on Aardvark too, oh well...
I wished I'd have realized or someone had mentioned earlier that i had forgotten to take off my mud flaps... They were a mess when I finally pulled them off and tossed inside.

Building a capable off roader is easy, building a street legal one that you can wheel and then drive daily is the challenge...
