Feb 4, 2012 EWA Slab Meet and Greet

Postby kenny24 » Tue Feb 07, 2012 8:49 am

Going to take a shot at writing a short run report with some pics. I don't know most of the names but here goes.
Met up at Benton City at 9am and headed out in the fog. It was 27degs but as we passed through Grandview the fog cleared and it started to warm up. We arrived at the slab and started to air down for the run.
After all had arrived and got ready we headed for flex canyon. This being my first outing with any group I was not sure what to expect but the group was great about letting me know what to expect and how the terrain would be. CEG and Commando14 were the first to make a run on flex canyon and the girls and I enjoyed watching the action. Unfortunately Commando14 had a bit of bad luck and was the first and only casualty (twisted axle housing I believe) of the day. Bad for us too cause we were looking forward to watching his Jeep on the runs.
To sum up the day, it was an awesome time with a great bunch of people. The girls met some new friends and the day was a blast, even for the family in a stock ZJ with street tires...us. It it impressive to see what these rigs can do. Looking forward to the next run :D

Casualty? Did David (Commando14 Sr.) break an axle?

Tnx for the write-up and pics.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Flex Canyon, where is it out there?

Postby Livin4Today » Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:25 am

Kenny tell us more about the casualty, and can anybody tell me exactly where flex canyon is, Tara and I looked for it our last outing up there and I haven't a clue where it might be...

Commando14's Jeep twisted the rear axle (I think the housing) but he told me it should be up and running again by this weekend. Flex canyon is to the East of the parking lot (I believe) not very far. Being my first time there I am not entirely sure of its exact location as I was just following the group. I could find it though if I needed to.Will try and post some pictures later.

After you go around the big canal, the parking lot is right there and there is a concrete slab off to one side. May have been covered in the snow. Flex canyon is North East of there about 3/4 of a mile as the crow flies. Here is a link to the location of the parking area http://maps.google.com/maps/place?ftid= ... JRB&dtab=2

Huh... I think we drove up that, at least Tara did, but I think I did too... Anyway, I'm off to do some work on the TJ in the cold sunlight, trying to figure out translated chinky instruction for a wireless wench remote, that looks like the same one I have for mine, as well as why her winch controls work backwards...

Any Winch PhD's are welcome to swing by and help... 16 12 W. 38th in Kenn...

It was a fun day, but I was a little bummed out that I broke in the first 5 minutes, it was an expensive tow to put it right back on that trailer! I was playing around on the stair steppers in flex canyon, gave it an easy attempt first and heard a pop. The D35 pumpkin broke free of the axle tubes and it rotated on the tubes.. driveline was all bound up... pulled the driveline off and was able to drive it back to the trailer. Though it took a few attempts to get out of flex canyon with only the front two tires pulling. Might have to all another run there soon if there would be enough interest.

Around 11 AM on Saturday February 4th, 2012 we met up at the Slab ORV Area for the Annual Eastern Washington Adventures Slab Run/Meet & Greet. The turn out was big and many traveled from far away. The weather was nice. It was great talking with people I knew and meeting others that came out for the first time. I want to thank everyone for coming. You made this year's Eastern Washington Adventures Slab ORV Meet & Greet fun time.
