Juniper Snow Run 2/9/2014

Postby OldGreen » Sun Feb 09, 2014 5:22 pm

TJDave and I met up at the lower parking lot. Dave was solo but I had Jess in shotty and her boyfriend, the young Zach, rode in the back seat.

Bretterer did a low level flyby but didn't recognize us so we didn't meet up with him until later.

Aired down and locked in low range, we trekked through the dunes, avoiding the whooped out juniper road whenever possible. The flat light proved to be the biggest obstacle of the day. It was hard to see gradients and judge distances, plus the whoops were filled in with snow.

Along the way, we saw another group (midnight mudders, I think I recognized one of them) and a couple of RZRs out blasting around. . .but other than the sledders at smith canyon, that was IT.

Conditions were perfect really. 6" of untracked snow on top of firmer than usual sand.

We ran trails, we duned, we even cross country trekked. . .and, well. . .we got a chance to shoot a few bowls and practice our best rally car driving skills. . .

Then we did a little sledding, repeated the above. . .found Brett, did a little more wheelin'. . .aired up and went home.

No carnage, no drama, good fun. I only almost rolled once, but I made a brilliant (uh . . . accidental) save!

Got a few pics of Dave and the kiddos.

I did take a few pics of the popcorn popper doing his thing!

Had a good time. I needed to get out with the Jeep. Thanx for calling the run! 8)

My favorites are the snow drifting on an abandoned 3 ball course.

Looks fun!

I took the kids sledding on the dunes by Road 100, the sand was really firmed up good. Juniper woulda been a blast like that.
